ok obviously its a great accomplishment but im really tired of the media making a big deal out of him doing it at such a young age. its as if nobody notices that each year equipment gets better, records are re-set and younger athletes move up in the ranks; not just in golf, but in every sport. it should be expected that people will start getting things done sooner and with more ease, not celebrated.

You're kidding right??

If that is your opinion then that's fine. But, consider this. He has teed the ball up in 196 tournaments on the PGA Tour. He's won 50 of them, that's better than 1 win every 4 tournaments. 11 of his wins have been majors. Jack played in well over 200 tournaments before he won 50 (someone will no doubt tell us how many exactly). Plus, if as you say athletes are getting better, younger and stepping up to the plate more, then surely that means the competition for Tiger has been getting better whilst these young upstarts have been getting out on tour. And yet he carries on winning an average of 5 wins each and every year since he turned pro. The reason people are getting "carried away" is because all of the above is phenomenal. Tiger is the best, and he will almost certainly be the greatest that ever lived once his career comes to an end, and we SHOULD celebrate the fact that we are living in the same era and being able to watch it. Added to that is the fact that this guy lives under a greater spotlight than any golfer if not any sportsman in history, and he still carries himself with the grace and class a lot of his peers can only dream about. And long may it continue.

when and not if tiger would hit 50, and then when it happened they all acted as though they were surprised and it was some big thing to celebrate. their anticipation of his 50th win should serve as celebration enough.

Sometimes the media gets it wrong and hypes things up that don't really deserve it.

But in this case, I think it's a big enough deal to warrant the attention. Previous to Tiger, Jack was the quickest to 50 (at age 33). Tiger beat that by three full years. The names in front of him: Snead, Nicklaus, Hogan, Palmer, Nelson, Casper. He reached the milestone faster than all of those guys.

Don't worry, in short-attention span America, this won't be talked about for too much longer. The PGA Championship's coming up -- Tiger needs to make some space for number twelve

at his age most people could only dream about having his skill. His ability to work the ball and react well under pressure is unbelievable and should celebrated.. He has given golf the push it needed to become so popular with the younger generation of golfers today. Be happy for what he has done for our wonderful sport.

It's been TWO DAYS or so since the media has made a big deal of it. Two days. They weren't even talking about it at all until he won his 11th major.

its as if nobody notices that each year equipment gets better

... for everyone ...

records are re-set and younger athletes move up in the ranks;

You're wrong here. Younger athletes aren't moving up in golf. ONE person is. Phil Mickelson has three majors... and then you leap to nearly 4x that amount and you get to Tiger.

not just in golf, but in every sport. it should be expected that people will start getting things done sooner and with more ease, not celebrated.

Then why aren't his peers?

Your post strikes me as ignorant (which is not to say you are ignorant). It's ignorant of the fact that golf is a difficult game played against 140+ other people. It's ignorant of the fact that only ONE man is doing what he's doing - not a rash of them. It's ignorant of the fact that Tiger Woods has more majors than a lot of guys have PGA Tour wins - even celebrated pros like Jim Furyk have only 10 PGA Tour wins! Get real, seriously.

Jack, I told you to stay away from my forum. We all know you could have won 25 majors. We know you were good in your day. But don't make me call Barbara on you, now... c'mon!

Now THAT'S funny.

I don't really think the media made a big deal out of Tiger's 50th win. I've definitely seen them overhype a lot of other things more than they did this achievement.

It's absolutely incredible that Tiger has 50 wins already. If anything, it's comparable to Sam Snead's 80+ wins or however many he won. The competition is so much stronger nowadays, and Tiger doesn't even play in half the events each season. It's pretty remarkable.

You have to admit it is hard to come up with something to say other than nice shot, he is hitting a 7 iron form 180, he needs to hit it 2 balls outside the hole etc. They were probably thrilled to have something else to talk about.

I agree. I live 30 minutes from where the Buick Open was held and I listen to Sports radio all the time and the most it got was a brief mention in the sports update at the top of the hour.

If Tiger played in 30 tournaments a year, he would be well over 60 by now. Tiger has done the same thing Jack did later in his career. He set's his schedule by the Majors and the other big events. He could have 3 B.C. Opens, 2 Lumber 84's and a Booz Allen just by showing up.

But the tigers swept the tribe in dramatic fashion this weekend. That was what the WRIF was talking about all am.

It is a remarkable feat and I am not surprised at all that it was in all the media. We can't help it that you watch the same sportscenter 5 times a day .

I've posted a few times about Tiger being uber-hyped by the media when its uncalled for, but C'MON HE'S WON 50 TOURNAMENTS. He deserves the credit when he wins. I hate when he's way back in the pack, yet we see every shot and he gets more love than the 40 players who finished ahead of him, including the winner. 50 wins at age 30, thats amazing.

The anouncers at the Buick Open commented on Tigers last ten years and they were wondering when the next big challanger would appear. When Arnie took over the tour, so to speak, Jack came along and the overweight blond headed guy was booed alot for beating Arnie. Arnie's army hated to see Jack beat him. Anyway, the anouncers were wondering who will come out of the colleges to challange Tiger and it wouldn't surprise me if one is out there ready to take him on. If one doesn't show pretty soon, we will see Tiger dominate the next 10 years like was earlier predicted.

You're forgetting that... Jack was Jack. Nobody came out to stop Jack.

Someone coming out and stopping Tiger would have to be... the next Tiger. And I think it's unlikely we're gonna see "the next Tiger" quite so soon.

Absolutely correct. Jack had many challengers to his dominance (the Watsons and Trevinos of the world), but no one actually "dethroned" him.

Tiger's got the challengers too (the Mickelsons, Els, and Singhs of the world), but none of these guys has a chance to dethrone him. Those three guys in particular are either peaking now, or are on the other side of that peak. I think Tiger's going to be pretty much done with competitive golf before someone comes along to break his records.

"I played like shit." -Greg Norman after the '96 Masters.

If you look at the last ten years there have been two times that someone has replaced Tiger at the top of the rankings for any significant time. Vijay and Duval. However, look at what was going on with Tiger at those times. He was completely overhauling his swing. This guy got to the top of the game and tore down his swing...TWICE. Both times he had lulls in his game were by his own doing. He spent the better part of two years changing what was already the most dominant game in golf, if not all of sports.
