I been having a slight problem lately. I have been starting my outings amazingly good then falling apart to the point that i cant hit anything except my driver. I have been playing for 14 years and have never had this problem before. I'll give an example of last Saturdays outing. Par 4 hole 1 result Par, Par 4 hole 2-Par, 3rd hole Par 3 Birdie, 4th hole par 5- Birdie, 5th hole par 4- Par, 6th hole par 3- Par, 7th hole par 5- Bogey, 8th hole par 4- Bogey, 9th hole par 4- Par. Even 36 on the front 9. First hole of back 9 Bogey. 10th Double Bogey, 11th Double Bogey, 12th Bogey, 13th Bogey already plus 7 after 4 holes. I finish with a 88. I went from a person thats hitting every club in the bag great to the point where im hitting 5i shots low screaming right, Hitting 6i from tee 20 yards left of green, 7i 20 yards short, approaching a PW shot from 110 yards out an easy money shot for me and pull hooking it 10 yards left of the green. I dont know whats going on. I have never had this problem before. I dont know if im getting tired and im trying to hit my shots from my arms or if im changing my swing mid round. I find myself messing with my grip when things start going bad because i dont feel comfortable, like its getting to my head. The only thing that stays half decent is my putting and driving. My ball striking after 9-10 holes my last 3 rounds has went to crap. If you have ever had this problem what was it and how did you fix it. The only other option i have is to video tape myself on the course to see what changes. Let me know if you have any pointers.

I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

go back to basics and check the proper grip, posture, etc.make sure that you incorporate a pre-shot routine on every shot you take on the golf course.

With more playing experience comes consistency, so don't worry too much about the blow up on a few holes in the back nine, we all have them.

I have been playing for 25 years and I still have blow up holes and make double boogies. Anthony Kim had one on a driveable par 4 last weekend in Shanghai

So its most likely mechanics? I was thinking i was getting tired which has never been a problem but the only time i have ever hit shots like i have lately on the back 9 is when im at the range and get a large bucket and i get to those last couple balls and i start hitting them bad because im gassed. Another thing i was thinking is that im doing really well and in my head i dont want to screw it up so i start thinking to much and it gets to my head. I have noticed that towards the bask 9 i start thinking while im at the box and take my 2 practice swings and when i step to the ball my grip feels awkward, like im trying to be to perfect because i dont want to screw up my good score. When im doing great in on the fromnt 9 im not thinking about score or anything like that. I just do my 2 practice swings my 3 wiggles and hit. Most likely more mental then physical im guessing.

It may be not so much a swing issue, but a stamina issue or fatigue settling in.

With me, it's the exact opposite. Very rarely do I start out with a par on the 1st hole. Usually it's a bogey or double bogey. However, when I do start out with a par or better, it's usually a sign of good things to come in that round. The first two holes usually make or break my round.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

I may be wrong about the basic, it might be more of confidence in your game. I had the same problem and though it was because I was hungry and made bad decisions or out of shape. But, looking back, I think it was not being sure about myself and not confident in my own game. Playing and practicing will help improve your game.

This sounds identical to my game... Not sure if this will help,, But when I start playing poorly, I noticed, I start thinking: Dont Bogey or dont screw up. This kind of thinking makes my game go to crap. So I try to think of every hole as another opportunity to birdie, as opposed to: another hole 'not' to screw up on. This has helped me stay more consistent on scoring.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
