  1. 1. Do you: Spin back -or- roll up to the pin on approach shots?

I can't say that I do it intentionally, but most of my approaches with a full shot will hit and spin back a foot or two. Not a full fledged backup shot like you see on tour by any stretch, but it's fairly consistent no matter the ball I hit. I may get a little 1-2ft bounce forward on half shots because they're not spinning as much, but I don't really try to "run" them.

I can't vote in this poll, I'm still trying to hit the green consistently...

I pretty much aim for the center of the green with every approach 9i or longer. PW and shorter I will seek the pin, and I get mixed results. The most backspin I usually get is maybe a foot or two, but I usually run out a few feet. I am sure this is a result of my low club speed.

For me its somewhere in the middle. I like to throw in a highish pitch, have it skip once, and check then release a foot or two. If there is green to work with I'll land in 20' short and roll my hands over. Man, I love my 60*.

I don't 'play' for one result or another, I just try and hit the ball the best I can. When I do, the ball usually stops dead within 1-2 feet of impact in any direction. A mishit will result in rollout - never backspin. Since that is what my iron shots do, I just aim for the part of the green which has the best risk/reward ratio for my skill level.

It's easier for me to visualize how to hit the shot if I throw it up to the pin and stop it. I mostly use a 54-degree wedge. It got real easy when I bought a ball that checks on a dime - the Bridgestone B330 RX.

I like playing that Bridgestone

Given the choice, id rather release the ball to a pin than to spin it back. You can plan out your attack better that way, IMO. As impressive as it can look, spinning the ball backwards on the green usally hurts you more often that it helps.
