My wife and I will be at Treasure Island the first week of Dec. we normally head south and play in and around Bradenton. It's a long drive and takes all day to play 18. We would rather sacrifice some quality for a short trip and back to the beach early.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Rocky Point. Its right across the Bay. I know how long that trek is to bradenton. I know there are some locals here that can chime in. I lived in tampa until 4 months ago so there is a ton of golf within 20 mins of st. pete beach.

not much "good" golf in st pete. however, there are quite a few "decent" tracks in the surrounding towns:
Lansbrook
Tarpon Springs
Bardmoor
Dunedin Country Club
Isla Del Sol (very close to Treasure Island)
Mangrove Bay

Your best bet is Hillsborough county or like you said, the 1 hour drive down to Sarasota/Bradenton areas. Lots of good courses down there:
Buffalo Creek
Imperial Lakes
Legacy at Lakewood Ranch (one of my favorites)
The River Club
University Parkway

For Hillsborough Country, you can try:
Heritage Harbor (about 1 hour from T.I.)
TPC Tampa
Buffalo Creek
The Eagles
Links of Lake Bernadette
Northdale
Pebble Creek
Westchase

I was definitely going to suggest Bardmoor. Played it a couple of times and it's pretty enjoyable. Did make the drive to play TPC Tampa Bay also...not a bad drive and definitely worth it.

We used to vacation in that area all the time, including right in Treasure Island (and also Isla del Sol). I'll also highly recommend Vito & Michaels Pizza for dinner. Great pie and the wife loves the lasagna.

Mangrove and Bardmoor are your two best bets in Pinellas.

Head south... better golf, nicer tracks... hands down.

Play Cheval. Its a nice course, private, but open to the public for another month or so. Its like 39 bucks if you book on golfnow.com, I enjoyed playing there.

Also, Westchase golf course is one of my fav's and its in pristine condition right now.

I am a member at Rocky Point, its very reasonably priced and they let me walk, I wouldnt really recommend it though if your looking for a course to "remember", but if you just wanna play a quick 18, its a fun little track.

TPC Tampa Bay would be really memorable too. I havent played there but drove by it a few times Beautiful looking course....

    • First round at Quail Ridge: 47 + 47 = 94 *Note: It was 25+ mph winds with gust in the 35+ mph. It was also around 58 degrees. I felt like I was out in Oregon. The greens were very firm.  Driver was decent. It didn't cause me an issues.  Irons were the biggest issue. Just low point control was lacking. Mostly on the chunky side. Also, my irons were routinely 20-30 yards shorter than normal. Even on holes with a cross wind, the ball was just dying. We played an extra 9 holes after the first 18, and the wind died down by then. I stepped into a 9 iron, and it came up 15 yards short. I have no clue what is going on. I should not be hitting 9 irons 140 yards when I am hitting my driver 300 to 310 yards.  Warmup didn't give me much confidence. I just kept shanking every other iron shot. I didn't shank an iron during the round. I just felt all out of sorts today. Coordinate felt off.  yea, I have no idea if I am purposely slowing down my swing to feel my downswing piece. Again, I hit a decent 9 iron and lost 15 yards of carry. I hope this is just an off day.
    • Day 565 - 2026-04-19 Wanted to get home to do some spring cleaning type stuff, so I practiced for about seven or eight minutes and got my butt home. Just backswing stuff, mostly, with freezers and a little downswing feel. Liking the new big mirror I have.

    • Day 22: played 18. Shot okay - 80 - but long game was bad. Saved by some good putting and short game.
    • Well that's about the dumbest thing I've read today.
