New to the forum...just in time for snow

I've been reading the wealth of information contained on this site for a few months and decided I'd finally sign up in hopes of being able to contribute in some small way.

This year was the first I got really serious about golf. When the rest of my foursome consistently used their "hand wedge" to get them out of trouble, I played every shot I could even if it was in big trouble. Right now my handicap doesn't reflect the improvement in my game because I spent a good part of the summer fighting a slice off the tee. Thanks to some good reading on this page and a lot of practice I am now playing a decent draw off the tee. I have only been able, however, to get 2 full rounds in since the swing change due to winter's not so subtle arrival.

This is a great forum and I look forward to spending the winter reading and learning until the snow clears.

haha, hand wedge, that's awesome. Yeah I try to play it legit too. It's good to get practice trying to get out of trouble.

I used my hand wedge several times yesterday. I also lost 2 provisional balls.(ironically i located the first ball hit each time) It just wasn't my day.

Living here in SE AZ, we don't see much snow except on the mountains. I do have to sometimes put on long pants in the winter though. ;)

That's just not fair! This Saturday was nice and I was able to get 18 in, but Sunday brought a few inches of snow. It's a 5 hour drive to play anywhere without snow now.

Hi everyone...another newbie to the forum and also a newbie to golf. I don't know what a hand wedge is but I just picked up a new lob wegde (60 deg). I'm from
Canada, and we expect snow by this weekend.

I'm new here also, nice looking forum and happy I joined. I know what you mean about winter golf. I live in Billings,MT and although we have mild winters here in the valley it's still not great golf. I did hit a bucket today and it felt good, no snow yet and temp about 58...not bad for day before Tday.

A hand wedge is how some people refer to people picking up and throwing their ball to improve their lie. Good luck making it through the winter. As you get more addicted to the game, winter becomes more of an annoyance.

      Day 234 (23 Dec 24) - Mystery Monday - what to do today….pretty straight up as I spent time with the 58 and a series of pitches (lower flighted all the way up to high fliers over the tulip tree).  Wrapped up the day going lower ball with the 9i and easy bump and runs.  Again as always the setup was key - case in point, got lazy and casually set up, feet straight and promptly hit a couple of nice heely shots hard right.  Knew it immediately, as next couple I went through the routine and flew the balls promptly too the target point.  Setup - setup - setup…
