I don't know what going on. Distance changes are as follows. First column is what it was a month ago compared to todays. I'm only listing clubs I hit today on the course on a full swing.
Driver - 230-280 Now about 210
3 Wood - 200-230 Now about 200
4 Hybrid - 200-210 Now about 180
4 iron - 180-185 Now about 170
5 iron - 175-185 Now about 160
6 iron - 170-175 Now about 155
7 iron - 160-165 Now about 150
8 iron - 150-160 Now about 140
9 iron - 140-145 Now about 130
PW - 125-135 Now about 120
Didn't even have a chance to use any of my wedges on a full shot today so I won't list them.
A month ago, I was a decently long player. I played about 3 weeks ago and noticed this distance change but didn't think much of it and brushed it off as a bad day. Today I played for the first time in 3 weeks (been sick) since the distance change and things were even worse. I don't know what it is. I played "decently" and shot an 89. I felt like I was hitting the ball as solid as I used to but it just didn't have the distance. I'm using the same ball too.

Some of my thoughts are the cold weather affecting the ball. Maybe I lost my swing somehow. I tried everything out there to hit it like I used to but just couldn't figure it out. Tips? Recommendations? Possible problems to look for?

Try a lower compression golf ball in the cold weather amd see if this makes a difference.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna try out the Nike Karma tomorrow when I play. I've read some reviews on it and it seems like it would be a pretty decent choice for colder weather.

The Yanks aren't that old yet

it's the weather man! don't worry about it. i use a srixon soft feel to compensate for the weather and loss of distance i get from using my regular ball.

This might seem like a joke to some guys but what Im about to say works for me when I get in a distance slump. Go outside in your yard or at the range whatever, take address with the club of choice, start swinging the club like your going to hit a ball, at the same time increase your swing speed until you cant swing the club any faster... literally!! Just do it for a few minutes or whatever, Idk what your exact problem is but what happends to me is that I get to relaxed over the ball and I loose that feeling of confidence when I swing 90%, I have been doing this for a few weeks every so often and my distance has increased alot with every club mainly my wedges and short irons(last time I was out my 60* went 93 yards, usually it goes 78ish). My theory is hard to explain in words but trust me it works.

buy those hand warmer thingies... keep one in your bag (the pocket where you keep your extra balls) and another in your pants pocket or where ever you put the ball you are currently playing...

today i hit 2 balls on the last tee... one was a nike one platinum and the other was a topflite super duper maximum enormous distance something or other i found in the rough...
i lost sight of the nike right after i hit it... i laid into the topflite and it sounded like a rock off an aluminum baseball bat... i thought i hammered the thing...
got up to the topflite and noticed the nike one platinum 20yrds farther on the same line...
the nike was warmed up in my pocket before i hit it

Playing the Karma today actually felt great. It played a bit longer than what my TP Reds were playing on Saturday. Shot an 85 with more putts than I'd like to remember. Should have been closer to an 80-81 but thanks to 6 three putts and only 2 one putts, that killed the round.

I'll give that hand warmer thing a shot and see what happens with it.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
