Anyone know why? Just seems like another pebble to add to the growing pile of her emotional immaturity... eh, that's a bit haste, golfers fire caddies all the time. Just my first impression though.

So is he the scape goat for her penalties and lack of win?

Yes there are two sides to the story but if it's true what he says then I think it's rude and un-professional that he wasn't told face to face or by his own player.

Maybe the Wie's should hire a rule official to be her caddy!

I didn't see anything saying that. Perhaps he was late. Perhaps he just didn't get along with Michelle (or BJ). Or whatever. You don't know that they're trying to scape-goat him.

Let's just stick to facts, eh?

Right, that's why I worded it as a question. That's also why I said there are two sides to this story.

Agreed that we should stick to what we know. When I saw this article today, my first thought was, "Here we go again" with the Wie critics. But, as mentioned earlier in the thread, caddies are fired all the time for reasons that never see the light of day by the public. We have no idea of the dynamics in this particular situation.

Exactly. For all we know, she just wasn't clicking with her caddie. It's like a marriage. Sometimes it doesn't work out.

Ever had a 16-year-old girl break up with you? They're not usually the best at it.

I think it is a bit much to expect a 16-year-old to take on the role of an employer and fire someone twice their age. It's not as if she's Tiger dumping Fluff, who, if memory serves correctly, also got the word from an intermediary.

Shame on Wie for this display of cowardice. Need someone to blame for your failure? Brilliant, let's fire the caddy. Better yet, let's have our AGENT do it. We'll have our agent 'romance' the caddy over dinner and then for an encore we'll have our agent fire the caddy the following day right before he boards his plane for the trip home. My goodness. At least try to salvage a sliver of integrity and do it face to face. Anyone deserves that. What Wie may one day come to understand is that when a person so willingly compromises their integrity, a knowing of the dubious character they cultivate burros itself into the recesses of their mind. Somewhere deep inside the gray matter she will harbor this weakness of character and will be infected by it...... and it will ultimately betray her on the course. You're still young Ms. Wie, you may still be able to change your ways. Good luck.

Gee, your first post is a Wie-bash. Might you be one of "those" people?

As has been pointed out, she's 16 and she may not know how to fire someone two or three times her age. That doesn't mean she won't learn.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I once read that Phil Collins divorced his wife via fax.

hm.. I guess I'm missing something. Somebody, somewhere, for whatever reason got fired.... ok... and this is a big story because ?
Oh I see it now. Because it's Michelle Wie. Because EVERYBODY will scrutinize her every step.
I've a personal message to all "media" and "fans" (quotation marks used on purpose) making a stink about it - GET A LIFE. Write and bitch all you want about her scores / finishing places, butt out of her life and professional decisions. Especially since everybody with a BIT of common sense knows - it was not HER decision, but her entourage.

gotta agree here. I am not a Wie fan but come on people this is not a story. People get hired and fired everyday. Nobody laid blame just said his services are no longer needed.

When was the last time that the president of the company fired someone? I think they usually have an office manager do it. And she is 16 like Erik pointed out.

I think one thing that has gone relatively unnoticed is that Greg Johnston is no spring chicken. He caddied for Julie Inkster during all of her major wins. He has a fair amount of respect among LPGA players, and I'd be surprised if this didn't have repercussions in terms of other players and caddies opinions of the "Wie camp." It'll be interesting to see if she can provide enough money to the next looper to overcome the scrutiny and sharp axe they have developed.

Sixteen or not, she is still a professional, and using your agent to fire your caddie at the airport without even a single word from the golfer herself is unprofessional in every sense of the word. Much like not reading the USGA and R&A; rule books all the way through.

Cheap shot on the rules violation, gas. Annika broke a rule earlier this year, Tiger broke one last year, and so on. Guys (and gals) break rules every time - and at least Wie didn't "Jang" it and deny hitting the moss in the first place.

If we judged the "professional-ness" of pros by how well they knew the rules, we wouldn't have any "professionals" playing on the PGA or LPGA Tours.

Man it took a lot of posts before someone realized that the girl only 16-years old and her father probably makes decisions such as this for her. Maybe she did initiate it. Maybe not. But she is a minor, afterall, and can't be expected to make all of the decisions regarding her career. In fact, I would not be surprised if she didn't make any.

Fair enough, but I don't know of too many pros who could be quoted as saying something like this. At least some have tried to read it.

"Wie said she had no plans to read the Rules of Golf now that she has been penalized twice in less than a year. "Well, it is not actually great reading material, but I am going to definitely call a rules official if something questionable happens," she said. " http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=2539541 Sure there are two sides to every story, but after hearing how she fired her caddie, and her naieve approach to the rules of golf, I've lost quite a bit of respect for her attitude and maturity. I'm beginning to agree with the LPGA's decision on not granting her full status until she matures a bit.

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
