As of now, the only wedge that I have in my bag is a PW. I am looking to add two more. My thoughts were to go with a 52 and a 56. Is this a good way, or does anybody have a different/better suggestion?

whats the loft of your PW?

I recently moved from a PW, 56 and 60 to a PW, 52 and 56 on a black friday deal on the TM RAC Satin wedges.

I'm not sure if it's a result of moving to matched wedges (Vs a Cleveland CG10 and a Cleveland Tour Action 900) or a result of the loft changes, but I played my best round so far with that setup.

I've come to terms that I'm not good enough to play a reliable lob wedge, as I used to hit a lot of flop shots. Dropping down to easier to hit wedges has put me more consistently on the deck albeit takes away some of the surprise factor of hitting a stellar flop a few feet from the pin, but has overall helped my scoring.

48 or 46 or something like that... i just learned diffrent shots to do with my pw & sw to cover that gap between the lofts.

I think that you will be very well served by those exact lofts you are considering.

I'm gaming 4 wedges now....but could very easily drop to the 3....if I did, it be the lofts you showed.

Id go with a 52* and a 56*. Thats going to give you a good spacing between your wedges.
Id forget about a 58* or 60* for now. Those clubs can be difficult to hit consistently because the angle is so extreme that the sweet spot is pretty small and high-handicappers dont have a swing that is consistent enough to hit those clubs well.
Heck, Im a 12 handicap and I still have days where I cant hit my 60* worth a darn and have many times considered swapping out the 60* for a 56*.

I have the following wedges:

PW 130 yards
52 100 yards
56 90 yards
60 80 yards

If I were to use only two besides the PW, I would pick

52 and 56 degree wedges, what bounces are you considering?

I can open the 56 and play partial shots.

Really good advice from the golfer from Wisconsin.

You might get an Adams Tom Watson wedge set, or a Slazenger set. Several companies have come out with new wedges, so older models are coming down in price. Maybe Santa can help... Once you get the other wedges, practice with them to set up your "yardstick." It you end up with a 15-20 yd. space between PW and the 52º, learn how to "choke down" on your PW to take some distance off the shot when needed. And, forget about the lob wedge until your swing improves. The 56º can be used for short pop shots out of fluffy grass near the green, a much safer shot than a lob wedge. ------------------ Also: Why not put a What's In My Bag section in your sig-line? That way, we can see what mix of clubs you carry and how you approach the game. -----------------

so you DO have a SW? your original post said you only had a PW. if you already have a SW (56º?), i'd just ad a 52º and a 60º

Rocketsauce, I do only have a PW. The answer that you quoted was kennays. I think the loft is 47.
As far as the bounce on the clubs, I dont really know. What should I be looking for on both a 52 and 56?

Amen to that. Id say I hit just as many fat shots and skulls with the 60* as I do shots that do what I expected.

The 60* is a great club to have in your arsenal if you can hit it properly, but sadly most of us dont have the game to hit it properly on a regular basis. Im seriously considering replacing it with a 56* Vokey next year.

PW - 48*
SW - 56*
LW - 60*

I've toyed with the idea of a 52* gap wedge, but I can control the distance of my PW pretty well between 105 and 130. Would still grab a GW if I found a sweet deal though, just to see what happens.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
