anyone can answer this question... I mean a 36 can have a good opinion on this...

I got in a bad car wreck on Columbus Day weekend... I mean I still can't walk yet... (physical therapy sucks)... I ain't touched a golf club since I mean I putt from my wheelchair but that's beside the point... My left knee is to the point where I have ligament damage beyond repair... and I broke my pelvis in four places... the doctors say I will golf again...

Ok... the point of the thread... with my physical limitations when I am able to play golf again... should I consider hybrids... will I ever hit a two-iron 250 on a par-five again.

It depends how well you come out of physio.

You probably won't hit the ball as far but if you keep your ball striking good you should still be able to hit it.

well when you have a 130 mph clubhead speed and play tight courses like I do you tend to have a hard head when it comes to technology... but now I might have to...

im just getting back onto my feet after a bad crash myself (spent almost a month in the hospital). as far as your injury goes, you may come out of this as good as new. if not, maybe try replacing that 2i with a hybrid? i gave up my 2 iron 8 years ago

Sorry to hear about your injuries, sounds like you a lucky to be alive (takes a lot of force to fracture the pelvis in healthy people)

Were your pelvic fractures severe enough to require surgical fixation?
Is it your front knee or rear knee (relative to the golf swing)?
Any surgical options for the ligament damage?

Yes, Hogan was able to play and win championships after pelvic fractures.

I'm guessing you are a good athlete (+3.5), so I think you'll be able to play golf competitively again. Might take a while, starting off with par 3 courses, etc.
--you might benefit from a knee brace and a sacral/pelvic belt---talk to your ortho.
There are some interventional injection and denervation procedures for sacroiliac pain (part of the pelvis)

Best wishes on your recovery.

I have never used a two iron and don't plan on it. My swing speed isn't as high as yours but I am able to outdrive my regular foursome most of the time. Keep a positive attitude and keep moving forward even if you get knocked two steps back. It helps if you envision yourself playing golf again. With that mental picture it gives you a goal to work toward. Best of luck to you.

Very sorry to hear about your accident and I sincerely hope you return to golf 100%.

In terms of the rest of the information (250 yd. 2-iron; shot 60 in a pro-am; 130 mph swing speed), something tells me your pride will not allow you to give up the 2-iron. Not that I can blame you.

If you are really a +3.5 HC golfer, then you are fine-tuning your game in every possible way to stay there (or improve). Therefore, I can't believe you haven't transitioned to a hybrid before.

With very few exceptions, anybody who can hit a 2i well can hit a hybrid even better.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I agree with the others that you now have a great reason to get a 2-hybrid.

I was curious about your statement that your left knee damage is "beyond repair." Torn ACL's, LCL's or PCL's are normally repaired in active adults, but torn a MC ligament usually is not repaired. I'm hoping you the best for you.

I tell knee surgery patients (and I know your therapists are saying this) that range of motion should be an important goal re: your knee over strength. Just make sure you're focusing on straightening the knee out as much as you are bending it.

Btw, I went to college in Ithaca in the mid 90's. It's grown a lot since then and hopefully you'll be out on the course sooner rather than later.

Let's just say that you're in good company. Keep at your PT, you'll be back on the course hitting 250 yard 2-irons in no time.

its good to know... my ortho is saying about a month and I can go to a brace and crutches... I broke my pelvis in four places... I have seven screws in my pelvis... and my knee strength is getting better... its the pelvis I'm worried about... but if I have to play pitch and putts for a while when I have my strength back, well its a step in the right direction...

Ouch. One of my best friends fractured his pelvis in three places (four screws). He's never been a great athlete, but he does play golf after the injury.

I'm hearing encouraging news that you'll be transitioning to crutches and brace.

    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
