Well from what I can see you're coming WAYYY over the top, and some overswing. I try and do the same thing so I can create leverage with overswing, but it doesn't work. Trust me, it's better to do 3/4 of a swing and go like that. I think you're hitting either a large fade, or slices.

Try and keep your elbow into your body, that will lower your plane as well as keep you from overswinging. (Right elbow, sorry forgot to mention)

Try the drill where you put tees under your armpits and don't let them fall out during the swing, it will help you keep your arms connected and close to your body.

Hmm, ok.

I've been trying to get rid of the over the top. Yesterday I hit a little fade, but no slices or anything like that. Toward the end my irons were dead straight. I'll do the drill with the tees though.

WAYY over the top???? I disagree.

Looks pretty good to me, maybe a little "wobbly" at the transition, but not bad at all. Nice stable base, looks very centered.

Well I understand now, it's not too bad. Although you are coming over the top, I can tell.

Like I said, just try and stay connected.

Hmm.. I was just imagining putting tees under both my armpits... and swinging.... I don't think that'll work very well since I'll only be able to take it up like halfway.

Yea man that swing is way to steep. Look at how high above your head your hands are at the top of your backswing. You pretty much want your hands at ear level, maybe a little higher, but thats way to high and steep which makes you come right over the top to compensate.

Your not that much over the top though, somehow you compensate for that steepness. I'd say once your arms get to 9 oclock, instead of lifting your arms, keep turning your shoulders. That will get you flatter and give you more power.

Looks pretty good though, lots of power stored up!

Im glad i saw this. I went to the range and was pretty uncomfortable with my driver. I now know it was because of my right arm coming away from my body.

Ok, I was at the range again and was focusing on going inside out and flattening my swing. and not going over the top...

however, I was chunking quite a few balls, and my driver and most of my irons had a little tiny fade to it, which I couldn't get rid of.... what part of the swing is causing this?

When I was working on coming over the top, the club was pulling me back. Try and get your hips clear and forward, almost pulling you forward before you come into impact.

How were you hitting the ball before? If you were hitting good consistent shots with what you were doing why change? I just watched tee it up with tiger and one of the great point he made is there are so many ways to play the game. So if something works for you stick with it.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
