I must not have searched for the right key terms, because I should swear this has been discussed before. But I can't find it, so I'm asking.

A friend of mine is getting ready to purchase his first real set of irons. He's been playing with hand-me-downs and found a set he loves and has the money set aside for it: the Adams A7 if it makes a difference for the question I'm about to ask.

Could someone more familiar with the business side let me know if there's a reason for him to wait a month or two before purchasing? We've seen the set for under $500 (including the two hybrids) at both Roger Dunn and GolfSmith recently, but are wondering if there's likely to be a sale of some sort before too long. I can't imagine there would be a major one before Father's Day, but I don't know about these things.

Also, on a related note, what's the best/easiest/most efficient way to get fitted for Adams irons? I can't seem to find a demo/fitting day information on their website, and I'm not ready to suggest my friend to get fitted at a golf shop, especially if the company does free fittings.

I cant really answer your question on the price since i have not researched what they usually go for. I bought all my nikes off Ebay for pretty cheap, my Irons for 525, 3 and 5 wood for 100 (used) , and my wedge set for 118.00 ( felt like i hit the lottery.)

So after i got all my clubs for 2010 i just went to dicks sporting goods and got them fitted their.

Every pro shop should have a person who is certified to fit someone to their clubs. I would just call around and ask what the process is.

My process was taking my measurements and watching my swing.
we determined we could cut i believe an inch off my clubs because i am only 5'6 with a 31" height from the floor to my wrist.

So he cut them all down and regrippied them ( you'll have to regrip your clubs if they cut them down which cost money depending on the grip you have.)

I then went in the next day to see where i was hitting the ground with my club at impact. I needed a Lie adjustment of -3 degrees because my toe was sticking up at address and such.

but i am now fitted and im ready to hit the course whenever this snow goes away.

The golf shop you are buying from should do a free fitting for you. Or charge you and then deduct them from the purchase if you do make it.

As for the timing of the purchase, just understand that most golf mfg's present new models in Jan, Feb & March. so the best time is to wait until the next release date and purchase the older model.

As for me, I was using the 2006 Callaway Fusions, purchased used about 2 yrs ago (4-SW). I just replaced them for a Brand New set of Callaway Fusion wide sole irons (3-PW). These are 2 yrs old, but never sold, so they are brand new, even though they have since released a newer model. I like the 2007 model better than the 2009 model and got the 2007 model for over 60% off the msrp! When I got them home, I had the pleasure of removing each iron from a separately sealed plastic sleeve.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
