I currently play a Tour burner driver and R9 3 wood. I'm soooo happy with the 3 wood that i'm considering an r9 460 driver to replace my tour burner. What I want to know is, is there much of a difference between the two (apart from the adjustable shaft, obviously) such as distance, forgiveness, trajectory etc?

I've hit both pretty extensively. I think the r9 has the edge in trajectory and forgiveness and produces less backspin, by a pretty fair margin. They're about the same distance for me. But I've got the r9 460 TP and I just hit the non-TP Tour Burner.

I also really like the adjustable head. It makes a huge difference. If I want to play a draw, I set it to left and swing normal. If I want to play a fade, I set it right and swing normal. My normal setting is the TP setting, which is half-way between neutral and right. But I turn my hands through it and play a small draw. It works out really well unless I get the hands through too late. But if the hands are good, it's 10-20 yards longer than the Tour Burner with great trajectory and spin. If I don't hit it great, it's about the same distance as a stock swing with the Tour Burner.

What's in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag:

Driver - Taylormade Superfast 2.0 TP 10.5
3 Wood - Taylormade Burner 15* REAX
Hybrid - Adams Idea Pro 18* GD YSQ-HL

Irons - Callaway X-18 4-PW

GW - Cleveland 588 51*

SW - Cleveland CG 12 56*

LW - Cleveland CG15 60*

Putter - Cameron Studio Style Newport 2

No offense to you Patriot, but I ain't buying the just turn the switch ball flight thing. It's misleading to higher cappers who don't have a repeatable swing ie: there's a sucker born every minute.

Yeah, but you're talking to several single digit handicaps here, they do.

i think that players with a consistent swings are those that benefit from the adjustable face. even a high handicapper who always slices will benefit from the club but a player who hits it all over the course won't see any difference between the r9 and another driver.

I've read a lot of articles by pro golfers who have said that all the new technology mostly benefits the lower handicappers and pros, but the average hacker seems to think it applies to him. If you can't deliver a square face consistently square to begin with, then why should you be able to deliver a closed one any different?

Well, I have always hated the Burner line of woods from TM. On the other hand, I have LOVED the R series from TM, so I say go for it!

On a side note then, rules wise are you allowed to change the head position of an adjustable driver during a round of golf?

No, not during a round.
