Got my monthly golf catalog today and seen a few new(I think) clubs they've came out with. They were VR Drivers, FW, and hybrids. I know most golfers probably are Nike club fans, but by looking at my sig. you can probably tell I am. I like the way they play and the way I can shape shots easily. Although my driver is VERY loud I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. I like my CG irons but going to try and save up and the VR split cavities. Just wondering if anyone here has any compliments or complaints about them? The new drivers and woods and the older irons. Thanks for the input in advance!

Ive only hit the spilt cavities into a net and the feel just seemed off to me.

I haven't looked at any of their gear newer than the Sumo2 sticks. I've heard some strong endorsements for the shafts they are using now, though.

I like the VR line, especially the fairway woods, but they are pricey.

If I didn't love my putter, i would definitely buy a Method.

Umm, I wouldn't say MOST golfers are fans of Nike golf. As a matter of fact, I would say MOST golfers over the age of 35 don't like Nike for anything golf related. Just from what I've seen, heard, and been around.

Anyway, yes, the new Nike line is solid once again this year. I will be giving the Nike MachSpeed driver a test within a week. I will probably be testing a wood as well. The Machspeed drivers, hybrids and irons look very sharp, as does the VR line of drivers, woods and hybrids. Although I believe the Machspeed irons might be a bit too GI for my tastes. Nike has definitely been getting larger and better in the recent years. A lot of those folks who hold such ill feelings of Nike should put aside those feelings. They're missing out on some nice equipment.

I got to hit several shots with a pro's new 2010 Nike Victory pure blades with the new grooves. It is the first time I've hit a Nike iron that I instantly liked -- in fact, I liked them a lot. The only reason I did not rush out and order a set is I don't want to jinks them by buying a set prematurely after only one day of hitting a new club on the range. I've learned... one day on the practice range is not a reliable barometer for making a "new set of clubs" decision. Still... I really want these in my bag. They felt great and my shot reliability was better than normal. I think one reason they felt so good was the shaft was one grade less stiff than I normally play. The lower spin of rounded V grooves might be offset by a slightly softer shaft -- so the ball flight seemed closer to normal. I am not sure of this observation, but it is not a bad guess as to why I liked them so much.

I have not tried any of the new woods from Nike.

Well I never liked Nike clubs either, but as you can see, I certainly am not complaining about them now. They are one of only a few companies to make a good set of combo irons. I wish that the transition was a bit more subtle, as opposed to the way the set is more or less 3 types of irons, blades, split cavities, and full cavities. I would have liked a PW that was a blade, then maybe a 9 with a touch of a perimeter, then an 8 with a touch more, then a 7 with a little top cavity, a 6 with a little more, a 5 with a decent split cavity, 4 with a semi-full cavity, 3 with a full cavity, and a 2 with a deep cavity. The way they are is good enough though.

I like their woods, they are pretty darn easy to hit, but don't know if I'd want them yet. I'll have to try the FWs.

When I first started playing about a year and some months ago, I had a bad experience with the Nike Mojo balls on a particular round. I swore I'd never use nike golf anything. I was in the market for a putter about six months after that and found a Nike Unitized Tiempo that someone was selling here for a really good deal so I bought it. I loved it as soon as i used it. So this christmas, my fiance knew I really wanted some irons. She said she'd buy them for christmas as long as the price was reasonable. I decided on the Slingshot 4d's after reading reviews and hitting them at GG. I have played one round and some range time with them and once again was very impressed. Way more forgiving than my last set of cheap irons. The only bad thing I can say about nike's equipment is that a buddy of mine has the Sumo driver and that thing sounds like a softball bat when making contact. It's too loud for me. Kind of turned me off to nikes drivers. Which is bad because after this season, I plan on replacing my Driver and woods. Also Nike golf clothing seems a little too pricey for me.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
