I went from shooting 100+ most round to high 80's low 90's last year

What clicked with you to help you get below the dreaded 100? Sort of in that position myself at the moment, would love to break 100 100 is my best score so far and I always seem to get 101 or 102

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him

I was stuck trying to break 100 and what I did was to take the driver out of the bag. I lost more strokes off the tee than anywhere. Try teeing off with a 3 wood or hybrid.

Driving is actually one of the things I do best to be honest

Well were do you think you are struggling? Putting/Iron play?

you should break out your wedge first and foremost. practicing with a 56* or 52*, whichever you keep for your sand wedge, is the best practice for a full iron shot you can get. when you practice pitch shots, it is the 'micro' full swing. get your grip, trajectory, angle of attack, and impact position down with your wedge and you will be ready to take on the full swing.

best advice yet...try to do this on real grass....mats fool you into thinking your crappy shots are OK. I agree with chipolte a 40 yard 60* shot done properly ain't easy.

I dropped about 28 strokes off my game this past season...........

But there's a trick. I had taken about a 15 year unplanned break from golf when I started my family. I was shooting mid-high 80's when I stopped playing. 15 years later, my first 4 rounds I struggled to break 130......ouch... I was pushing everything, and just playing very poorly. Took four lessons, which brought my swing back around and fixed my grip, which was the main problem, and I started playing 3 times a week. By December, I was back to shooting 88-93's every time out. So I would say that this year was my most improved season.........with a catch.

Last year I would play in tournaments and never break 100. This year I'm a consistent mid 70's shooter. I'll say that my handicap dropped a good 30 strokes. I owe it all to living on a golf course, playing almost every day, taking lessons with a great coach who works at my home course, and the high school golf team.

What clicked with you to help you get below the dreaded 100?

I had a reverse pivot (a very bad thing to have)

I started playing tennis to get rid of it and well I went from hitting my driver 180 yards to 220+ Putting was another thing that helped too. And finally don't add up your score until the end of the round if your trying to break 100. It'll stop you thinking about it and trying to force low scores on the last couple of holes

I made the biggest jump in my game when i stopped living on the range and went out and played 40 rounds in a year. Ive actually only been handicapping myself for the past 2 seasons, so i dont have an factual frame of improvement - but if i had to guess i probably dropped from around a 12 to around a 6 that year by just getting "game expereince" So to speak. Before, i used to spend 3 or 4 days a week for 4 hours at a time on the range, but i probably only played 2 or 3 times a month.

Year 1 : Started May 2008. 36 to 19.2 in a year. I played my best golf in March of 2009 where I broke 90 a few times. I got hurt in April 2009.

Year 2 : Out for the Year with back and knee injuries. Played maybe 5 times. Never once played 18 holes in a row.

Year 3 : You have no idea how much I am fiending being able to tee it up again on a Sunny day. I used to care about my handicap and all those other things that can stress out a golfer. Not anymore. All I care about is the fact that i am healthy enough to play golf again. That's all that matters. People don't realize just how bat shit lucky they are to be able to play this game.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
