i've recently been working alot on putting, because i need to shave off about 5-10 strokes for golf season, and i was wondering if anybody has found any putting drills, practica aids, etc., that have dramatically improved your putting. i was thinking about getting the inside-down-the-line putting aid to replace the yard stick that i prop up with tees.
thanks

I own a 'Putting Rail' designed by Harold Swash (who is part of the development team at Yes!). The rail looks like a metal metre stick which you have to putt the ball along, if the ball falls from the rail that means you putter head was not square at impact.

I think the putting rail is a good aid as it suits any kind of putting swing path and really helps with focus on short putts.

A simple drill to visualize the relationship between speed and break.

Put a dozen balls around the cups at 3 to 4 foot distances. Ideally their will be some "break" within this area. Now try to fill the cup with all those balls. As you make putts the cup fills and to make the next ball the cup must be entered from a particular angle. Speed control and direction become important here.

This drill helps me with visualizing the break at a particular weight of swing. Kinda fun too. A chess match as to choosing which ball to hit next. My best is 11 balls made.

I do three drills. I do the 3 foot drill. Phil has made this famous. Pretty simple. Just 10 tees around the hole, balls beside, keep going till you miss. Then I do the same thing from 6 feet. If you make 7 out of 10 from 6 feet that is great. I also do a 20 foot drill. What you do is take two tees, 3 balls. walk off 20 feet one direction, put the tee in the ground, do the same other direction. Then the goal is to get the balls past the hole but no farther than three feet past. So you do one side, 3 putts, 3 putts, other side, 3 putts, then 1. It is really challenging. I have never been able to do it. If my directions don't make sense, these are all better explained by Pelz. The goal of all my drills is speed. If my speed is good putting is easy.

    • Glad it helped!   I had a range session last night and it has really taken the left side of the course out of play for me which is nice.   Maybe fading them a little too much but that's less devastating on the course than a snapper for sure
    • Day 265: played 18. Took forever and wasn’t at my best. Iron and wedge play is decent though. Then went to the driving range and worked on my priority piece while filming.
    • True.  Scotty is not playing the field (so to speak), he’s happily married (best we can tell), and seems to have the personality to kind of ignore all the hoopla.  The strange thing with Scotty is it seems he can’t crack the code to have the love of the crowd - - he’s definitely cracked the code to winning everything in sight.  Albeit the bizarre situation where he got arrested, but remember how that all went down, the guy reached in and punched him in the face (I believe), and Scotty seemed to take it all very very low key.  Evidence?  Open your eyes, look at the results, look at the trends.  There’s 15 years of evidence! Phil total cowboy?  Hadn’t quite heard it put that way - I guess you’re talking about the gambling?  or the move to LIV?  In any case, a very different type of scenario for Phil.  I’d say that Phil optimized his talent and probably got as much out of his career he could.  If anything, Phil was not so great physically for quite a while, but he trimmed down and extended his career
    • You don't know that for a fact.  You can't even provide evidence that supports the factors you listed out.
