I would guess that the fake percentage is quite a bit higher than 24% on Callaway and Taylormade products sold on Ebay....... I've heard these brands make up the most fakes seen on Ebay.

I check sellers reputation based on feedback, but mainly buy directly from store and for Callaway from their on-line outlet. Main reason I support local store is they provide me to demo, so I'm willing to pay premium for that.

I bought a set of AP2's that were fake off of ebay.... I paid with paypal so I figured it was worth a shot to see for $289. They were good fakes, very subtle differences, would fool a new golfer thinking he got the deal of a lifetime, I saw them and knew something was off. Contacted seller, refunded my loot no questions asked plus the return shipping. Reported them to ebay and Titleist. Now I check the sites that sell counterfeits to see what they are copying so I can avoid buying them online if I want that model.

Whether or not the statistical facts of this specific survey are valid, there are A LOT of fake clubs on eBay, especally Callaway or Taylormade clubs. You have to be extremely careful when buying from these brands on eBay. I would be surprised in 75% of the FT-iQ drivers listed were fakes.

For Callaway, I would buy directly from Callaway outlet: like-new is new (seems store displayed, but never used). Even average quality was in good condition with significant discuount. I check frequently for other brands there too.

I got my whole set of Mizzy MP-32 irons on ebay at a good price. The dealer has a mailing address in my area. After reception, I emailed the serial no. into Mizuno and got feedback that those are authentic originals. Heck, the few other individual clubs in my bag that are from ebay I would bet the whole bag on that they are real.

If it's "way cheaper" than the reputable online retailers such as TGW or Watts, then I suggest doing some research as I did with the manufacturer. Otherwise, I think many of the ebay sellers are just trying to compete in the online market.

One thing we can all agree on is that current year models of clubs are never discounted on new buys very far below a set value - ANYWHERE. There is more price collusion in golf clubs than almost any industry other than Apple computers - another area of my sick hobby addictions!
