one of the best matches i have ever seen - too bad about camilo with the choke, he'll still get him tomorow with an eagle on the 15th

the final, however, will be difficult for whoever gets through as poults is on fire!

camilo is officially the coolest guy i have ever seen, he's just awesome - he hit that quality shot on 13 from the bunker, then just gets out the bunker and doesnt even change his facial expression as if to say 'yeah, thats what i do'

Truly marvelous sand save by Camillo indeed, with a wide open 9i yet (I think). But Poulter was remarkable today - in a different class almost. I'm turning into a Poults fan, whodathunk it. I guess I can handle the pants after all. He's a tough minded sort of competitor, have to admire that.

No. He sided with Poulter - I would have too - and that was about it. I'm not sure why he felt the need to bring it up later, especially since he won that hole yet lost the match. Badly.

But what actually happened on 7?

I don't know you missed it, but there was a pretty strong little fist pump after he hit that shot. Either way, as soon as he was out of the bunker, he was back to "Val Kilmer TopGun" mode

But what actually happened on 7?

poults' 2nd shot went over the green and stuck in some bush in the desert, poults then told the official that he wanted a free drop for line of sight as he said he would try and hit the ball through the bush and the shotlink tower was in his way. the official didnt think that if the tower wasnt there then poults would play the shot through this bush but poults said that as it was matchplay and sergio was already on the green and poults was already 4 up then he would try to go straight at the pin which was blocked by the tower. in the end poults was allowed to drop, but didnt in the end anyway as the drop was even further into the bushes/cactai, but all through this sergio was agreeing with poults!

As stated by some other people earlier on in the thread.... I'm starting to become a big fan of Ian Poulter as well. I never really payed attention to him until I saw him at the '08 Ryder Cup. He was very entertaining in the practice rounds, specificially when he stuck his approach on 12 and ran up on the green to putt with his foot :D Then, during the matches he was money. 4-1 record with the loss being a tough one against Chad Campbell and Stewart Cink. To his credit, Cink was red hot that morning.

Plus, he kinda put the flashy outfits and hair on the map a few years back :p

That was a disappointing end to the match. Villegas' errant drive, and then Casey's subpar approach ...

I'm looking forward to some good golf in the final.

    • Interesting that you post this - was playing today with my good friend in our typical weekly nine-hole round.  He has a lot of chatter in his mind, most of the time, yet today was much improved.  Yes, he went through a number of swing thoughts (like the ones highlighted), but then you could almost hear the switch click off - it was like when I shot the distance, and said its "X yards", he confidently said "this club should cover that..." and made his shot most of which were nicely rewarded.   Came away shooting one of his best nine-hole rounds ever.  For me, I do have thoughts  - not in terms of negotion but rather evaluation.  What is the wind doing?  Is there trouble - left, right, middle - not that I am a great fader or drawer of the ball?  Where is the better landing spot/zone?  What is my target window and what in the distance helps me see it?  I wonder if the "negotiation" is more about not understanding "typical distance for a given club (carry and roll)" and more about remembering how that flushed 5i that went and went or how the 4i that can get there with but not reliably or accurately.
    • God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU! Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.  Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!  Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭 OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
