Having just purchased a new set of irons, I need a gap and a sand wedge. I am going to use the PW from the new set and I have a CG10 60 degree LW already.

I've read several reviews on Eidolon wedge series, CG series and the ever popular Spin Milled Vokey. I was hoping to see what the opinions of the masses are. Since I think wedges are very subjective, I'm curious why you chose the wedges you have and their pros and cons rather than trying to persuade one another.

My initial thought was to go with the 52.08 and 56.14 Vokey SM in the Black Nickel finish. I just read some real glowing reviews of the Eidolon wedges and they seem worth a shot. What do you think?

I don't think you can go wrong with the Vokeys, but I've never tried the Eidolons. I've tried the CG11s, I just like the Vokeys better

I just got the Vokeys oil can in 50, 56 & 62 with last year's grooves and they are sweet!!! I previously played the CG 14s which were very good too. I guess you can't go wrong with Titleist or Cleveland wedges. Never played an Eidolon wedge.

As you can see, I've got one Vokey and 2 Clevelands. I like the Clevelands better out of the fairway and the Vokey better around the green. But the differences are pretty minimal, you can't go wrong with either. Never tried the other one you mentioned.

I have CG14's, but hit the Vokeys on a regular basis. Honestly, there's not enough difference in them for me for me to say one over the other.

i play the 09 spin milled vokeys and i love their performance. i'm able to get incredible amounts of spin with them and the control is just incredible. my short game has improved just by purchasing them but i can't compare them to the other two because i haven't had a chance to hit them.

I just got a CG14 50.08; haven't used it during a round, but I really liked the smooth feel during the test shots and early partials. The gold cushion insert on the back seems to cut down on vibration, a big plus for me (59 years old). Sensicore shaft inserts do the same thing.

Vibration might not be an issue for fredsco . But, Clevelands really feel smooth, especially CG14 versions.

. . . several reviews on Eidolon wedge series . . .

Eidolon? Other than Ebay, where could I see one of these for sale in real life? Their website(s) sure doesn't inspire confidence.

I would chose the Vokeys but thats probaly got a lot to do with that i play Vokey wedges and I love them. I played Pings for 5 years before that and Callaways before the Pings and nothing compares to my Vokeys. To me clubs all have to do with feel and if you feel confident with them.

The CG14s do feel very smooth. I'd probably be more likely to pick up one of these than the CG15. They're really nice.

I've played all three of the wedges. My preferences. Cleveland products was ok. I prefer the old school Vokeys to the spin mills. The spin mills are very good but the increased mass on the sole launches the ball a bit high for me, Also the added weight chipping is troublesome for me. The Eldollon wedges are very very good. The multiple bounce also me to control the trajectory of each shot. Rather than 3 or 4 wedge set up it's like having 6 to 8 wedges in the bag. Spin control is excellent and a very good feel.

Now notice in my signature I play Reid Lockhart wedges. Lockhart originally designed the dual and quad bounce system (basically a custom grind). Lockhart then went to Eidolon. But there are still a few Reid Lockhart offerings on ebay (Hill Country Golf out of Austin Texas) that can be had at 1/2 the cost of the Eidolon offering.

that said wedges are a very personal selection as is your putter choice.

All three of the offerings are very good and I would throw in the Lockhart product also.

Well, I ordered the Eidolon wedges: 52 and 56. I took advantage of the customizations they offer getting a larger grip size and the firm stiffness for the shaft. They arrived today and they look really good. I can't wait to try them out!

I have just replaced my Vokeys with Eidolons (52, 56 and 60). Eidolons are amazing wedges, although they do take a little to get used to. As a lefty, I really appreciate the shot options available with Eidolons, something that I didn't have with Vokeys. For example, my 56* Vokey had 14* of bounce, I couldn't hit this wedge from the fairway or on the collar of the green. No problem with the Eidolon. Customer service at Eidolon is first rate.

How have those Eidolon wedges worked out for you?   I really like the idea of the V sole being able to handle any kind of lie.    How has that sole worked out for you?

As a follow up to this thread, I just wanted to comment with two seasons removed from trying these wedges. The Eidolon wedges really are working out tremendously for me. They have a great feel and I have been continuously improving in my wedge play. I actually just reduced the loft on them to 51 and 55 to better fir my distance profile. I think the others are great also but I am very happy with the choice!

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
