New SuperFast... not so much...

Went to a TaylorMade event at the local golf Galaxy this weekend, they had a rep in the store demo-ing the new SuperFast and R9s, get a free trial of Pentas, etc. Was put into a 10.5 Stiff in the SF, and went to swinging on the monitor - finally slotted it after about 6-8 drives (that thing feels LONG), and it felt pretty good, but was only showing to be cruising about 240(220 carry) on the monitor. That didnt seem right, and of course the rep had the general lines about how the monitor could be off, or better yet that most people dont hit as far as they think they do, which I understand, but this just didnt feel right - I had just left the course from playing 18 at Firewheel, and had been carrying traps at 235, so I knew 220 carries wasnt right. When I mentioned that she suggested I get my driver and bring it in to compare (insert smug factory rep face here, lol). so I did. I went out to the car and got my R7 (in my sig) and took a couple swings, then proceeded to jack one 260 (240 carry), and did it several times in a row...

so if you're looking for a new driver and like TM equipment, I really do like the feel of the new SuperFast series. best recommendation as always though, is to get fit - they only offer 1 shaft in that driver, and it may not be the best for your swing. I personally think that head in a lower kick shaft would rock...

That's depressing. The r7 limited is a very good stick. Surprised you didn't like the new superfast very much. I haven't hit it yet.

Dick's Sporting Goods already has it down to $250. The R9 SuperTri is awesome though.

I hit it also, but only being 5'6", the shaft is just too long for me to make good shots. I had my '07 Burner cut down an inch already, to improve my accuracy, but the SuperFast is even longer than the Burner shaft. Just rediculous. I had the same experience, outdrove the SuperFast with my cut-down Burner, and more accurate as well. I just don't understand why they keep making the shafts longer, when most people can't hit the fairway with a standard length shaft.

Well, according to the USGA, the max length clubs can be is 48 inches, so not to much farther to go!

For woods and irons, the measurement of length is taken when the club is lying on a horizontal plane and the sole is set against a 60 degree plane as shown in Fig. I. The length is defined as the distance from the point of the intersection between the two planes to the top of the grip. For putters, the measurement of length is taken from the top of the grip along the axis of the shaft or a straight line extension of it to the sole of the club.

The SuperFast has a 46.5" shaft, where the 07 Burner was 46", which was still too long. Mine is now 45", and is much more controllable.

The local GG had them in as well. I didn't hit one because the cages were mobbed, but it definitely feels too long. I have found that I can swing a 45" faster then a 45.5", so the 46.5" would be useless for me. They only had Regular shafts available, talk about a noodle at that length. I'm sure it will pound the ball if struck well, but that's a big "if".

Bullitt, you and I are on the same page, my UST V2 is 45" as well. even in a stiff that 46.5" just felt LONG... almost whippy, but not quite. felt almost wobbly. Jamo, that price is ridiculous, didnt know they could drop prices already! agreed on the supertri, my buddy just ordered one with a custom Epic shaft and absolutely kills it... Patriot - go try it out, it cant hurt. I like the feel of the SF off the face, and with a different shaft it would probably rock, but in its current config it just doesnt do anything for me.

If you mean contact felt like a brick, then IMO, no. But if you mean a brick as in weight, well the SuperTri is meant to be a heavier driver. Certanly heavier than the Superfast.

The feel of the driver is what i ment. If its a softer driver i might try it out

I dig the SuperTri, very nice feeling driver. You can definitely feel where the impact is on the face, and when you catch it on the screws it feels great. Not dull, not too hard, doesn't sound obnoxiously loud... just a nice pleasing crack and a very solid feeling to go with it. My ball speed was up significantly on mishits compared to my current driver, as was my launch angle (mostly due to the type of shaft).

I didn't even bother hitting the SuperFast... I took one look at it and couldn't get used to the look and the sorta pixelated graphics on the crown. That and there was a line and I was enjoying the SuperTri so much, I didn't want to have to wait to hit a 2nd driver.
