I recently did the golf ball fitting at Golf Galaxy. When all was said and done, it recommended the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo ball. I have been a big fan of the Titelist NXT Extreme up to this point, but will try the Callaways out as soon as all the snow is gone.

My question is if anyone knows what the Titelist comparison to this Callaway ball is. It is a surlyn, two piece ball, that is soft in feel. I assume there has to be some comparable Titelist ball, but oddly enough, of the 30 choices that the ball fitting provided, there was not a single Titelist one offered. I am not sure if this is because the ball fitting software filters out Titelist, as Golf Galaxy may want to push other brands.

Thoughts?

I would think that the DT Solo (new edition this season) fits this description, no?

Pretty similar balls; both would fall into the "super-soft distance 2-piece" category.

Titleist balls are generally the best-sellers in their category at golf retailers. Retailers, however, do better business when they are able to move other brands off the shelf. That's why they would recommend other brands' balls before Titelist's: it pays off more for them when their customers don't automatically reach for a box of ProV1s, or what have you.

They normally charge $20 but I can't answer what the OP was charged if anything.

Just took a look at my GG Ballfitting Sheet from November 2008. They gave me two sheets. One has premium balls, and the other has mid-range to low-cost balls. (Strangely, the premium sheet did not list any Titleist balls).

GG threw in the ball fitting free, as I also had a driver fitting that day and bought the Hyper X Tour. Among midrange balls , the Slazenger RDS Tour was middle of the pack on distance, but #1 on Accuracy and #3 on overall performance. TopFlite D2/Feel was bottom on distance, #2 on accuracy, and #9 overall.

Focus, connect and follow through!

With how inaccurate the swing simulator has been at GG in some recent posts. Do we really think this ball fitting is worth it or are they just trying to move different brands like mentioned above?

Tough to say. Although they moved me to a different brand, they did move me to a cheaper ball so i would like to think that there is some validity to it. If they would have moved me to a more expensive ball I would have had my doubts. I did tell the guy beforehand what ball I was shooting.

After thinking about it for a few days, I have decided to "fit myself" not sure if this is recommended however I am going to have fun with it. I am planning on getting 4 sleeves of different balls, and playing 4 rounds. the one I play best with, wins. I am a skeptic of the simulators in general. There is a thread on here currently about how they "mess with the simulator distances". If this is the case, then who knows how accurate fitting from a simulator is. Luckily the cost of a sleeve of 3 balls isn't prohibitive and it'll be enjoyable. Once I have done it, I'll update everyone here on what I tried, how they performed, and which I picked.

I did that last season, I got several sleeves of both premium balls and the next step down and tried them. I think it is a good way to find what you like, IMHO, that is more important than the numbers on the screen. I settled on the TaylorMade TP Red, of course, with my luck, they will stop making them since they released the Penta.

I agree. Titleist outsells every brand, so if your list didn't have one Titleist Product out of 30, then I think that GG is trying to move other manufacturers products. When I was the merchandiser for a municipal course, we always got incentives to purchase any ball other than Titleist. Other ball makers just want to get shelf space.

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
