What is the best golf GPS app for the iphone? In looking through the App Store, it looks like there are 3 main contenders: Golfshot, Airvue, and GolfLogix. The key features for me are cost, annual fee, quality of the interface, and shot distance tracking. The costs and features I could gather from itunes are as follows:

Golfshot: 29.99 one time fee, no annual subscription. Distances on aerial view from any point by touching the screen. Assign layup distances for each club. Has shot tracking, but not sure if it tracks the historical distances of each club.

Airvue: $9.99 one time fee, no annual subscription. Has shot tracking, but does not record it. Distances on aerial view from any point by touching the screen.

GolfLogix: No fee to buy, $39.95 per year subscription. Seems to be the most full-featured. Saves the shot distances for all your clubs. Does it have an aerial view of the hole, with touch screen distances?

All of the apps appear to have pretty good scorecard and stat features. Do any have the ability to track the distances of putts made? I would also like to be able to map my own course (my favorite driving range) but I don't think any of them can do that.

Any reviews or opinions on these apps would be greatly appreciated.

I have Airvue and I'm quite impressed with it's accurate readings. It defaults to Meters so make sure you change to yards. It is not full-featured, and I only use if for distance measurement, but for $9.95 you just can't beat it.

was using golf logic previously. very accurate yardage. it does have a measure your shot so you could measure your putts in yards and just convert to feet. but i def think golflogix is great.

Before I bought my Callaway uPro, I was using the "Golf Card" app on my iPhone 3G. I believe at the time it was $10 and all courses were free. I am not sure if it was because I had the 3G and not the 3GS, but it was really slow. One cool thing however was that you were able to sync your scorecards with a site called oobgolf.com, which would then save your scores and compute your handicap. If it wasn't for the speed, I probably would have kept using it instead of the uPro.

Good overall stat keeping as well (e.g. greens in reg., putts, sand shots, etc.).

I did a little research before I bought one, and GolfShot seemed to have the highest overall reviews (as a function of price). I've been very happy with it, but then again it's the only one I've used. Very accurate--matches up with the sprinkler heads pretty much every time. Also has an auto-handicap feature, which I like since I don't play anywhere I can get an official handicap.

I have golf shot. The reviews don't lie. Its a great app and works wonderfully. Very accurate and for $30 or what ever it is, how can you really pass it up? They have a ton of courses and are adding courses all the time. I love it and highly recommend it!

Airvue is the best compromise of accuracy, ease of use, battery life and availability of courses.

I also have ViewTi2010 but it is not user friendly (too many button pushes for scoring).

I am using Golfshot. It has scorecards for all the courses I've been in Japan, and has aerial views where ever Google Map has. One time fee, I can download data for other countries I go to, it syncs data over the air and you can view your stats online on the golfshot website. The distances match very closely the yardage posted on the course, and once you know your way around the program, it's very quick to record scores and use. Very happy of my purchase.

+1. Golfshot is a cracking app.

The only thing it doesn't do that the OP mentioned is automatically track the distance of all shots with each club, but you can track individual shots manually by hitting a button. GPS is accurate (although that may be more to do with the hardware than the app) but most importantly the "refresh" rate of the GPS is good, which means you don't look at the reading, pull out a club and then watch the reading update to be 20 yards closer than you originally thought.

    • Akshay Bhatia beat him in a playoff last year I think. He went something like -7 on his last 7 holes to get into a playoff and then rinsed a wedge on the 1st extra hole in a way that would have made Tommy (and Rory) blush.
    • Tristan, did you end up getting the new Edel wedges?  I'm very about due for new wedges.  I was trying other configurations a few years ago and somehow my 54 and 58 are both hand-me-downs that I never got around to getting as new and fitted, and my last new-as-in-new wedges were Ping Glides a long time ago.  I was thinking of Edel wedges earlier today, although their website seems to list only two fitters.   Did you end up getting them, and if so, what do you think of them?
    • @colin007, in terms of realistic sci-fi, its the best ever. They actually had an astrophysicist consult on the movie to be as accurate as possible with what we know about the universe.  For like dystopian, Blade Runner is probably king. Action/suspense is probably Alien/Aliens. Though Starship Troopers is fantastic. The Matrix is amazing.
    • Day 4 (August 14).  Full swing in my indoor practice room;  6-iron, off a mat, into a net.  Focus was on what I believe was my priority piece at last lesson (which, admittedly, was almost three years ago, due to absence).  I hit about a dozen balls this morning before going into the office.  (Also, errata to yesterday:  9 of the 12 coins were picked up on the second or third go around -- you can't pick up one on the first go around for that drill)
    • Watched The Gentlemen, took a little bit to get into it, but very good Guy Ritchie movie.  Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant were great. Give it a birdie.
