hi, i had hit about 14 bags of balls on a span of about 4 weeks at a indoor practice place with a fake green and a real bunker and about 6 golf range nets with mats this is after a break from golf of about 4 months so first 2 times where not to good but i got to the point of where i was hitting irons very good driver great chipping was ok but still i was back to golf no problems then i went 1 day and boom! i could not hit the ball i tried driver first and topped it after about 5 drives topping or shanking i went to irons same thing so i took a 2 week break to see what would happen and now today i went to the course hit a large bucket with my new nike victory red driver 10.5 driving was great played 9 holes i could not hit my irons i tried not moving my hips and legs and much and it seemed to help but i was still hitting bad shots which barely got of the ground i am using the nike victory red split cavity irons i got last year this is my first real set other from my starter set i thought i could learn on these i tried them at the demo day and i hit them (perfect) if u hit the sweet spot its like your not hitting a ball so i dont think its too much club what do i do!!!

This is an opportunity to learn the basic golf swing and know how it works. Once you do this you will never have this problem again.

How do you start, you might ask? focus on your take away in two ways, the starting position and the position you are at when the club is hip high. The shaft of the club should be pointing at the target and back of your front hand should be square as well as the club face and it should also be pointing up. Try practicing this position while hitting a wedge and see how solid you make contact. Just hip back to hip hip forward. You will see Mike Weir and Justin Leonard practice a pre-shot routine similar to this motion.

Whats important is not only the position of the club but what distance away from your body you are starting the upward angle to reach hip high. you will notice with your wedges that there are time when you do not make solid contact but hit it thin, what you need to do then is to take the club more upright.

a video that might help you below.............

It is hard to tell what you are doing wrong that could cause a problem with hitting your irons without a video of your swing. But since you say you were hitting your driver well and couldnt hit your irons, I would say that most likely it is your angle of approach. Meaning, you are coming in too shallow on your irons. The angle of approach for a driver is very shallow, but the angle on irons is much steeper. But like I said before without a video of your swing, it is hard to tell if this is the problem or why your angle is not correct.
