My Titleist AP2's (4 - PW) are scheduled for delivery Wednesday. The day before I leave for Myrtle Beach, LOL!

While I am happy to (hopefully) have them for the trip, it has been a frustrating experience. I've always had very good dealings with Golfsmith, but maaaaaannnn... this one tested my patience.

I had been fitted by a family friend who is a head Pro at a nearby course. So, I knew the minor adjustments I wanted for my new clubs. I had my Taylor Made RAC's for seven seasons and decided it was time for a new set this year. So, after much researching I decided on the AP2's. On February 26th I placed the order. The following Monday, March 1st, I realized I had made a mistake in my order and called GS to see if it was too late to make a change. They said they would submit the request, but couldn't be sure if they had already started to process the order, etc. Fine. I understood that it was my mistake and I knew I could exchange them if need be.

So, I call back later that week to see if the change went through and to my delight, it had. They got it in time and everything was supposed to be good to go. My clubs were due to ship on 3/10/2010. So, out of curiosity, I decided to call and get a "status update" around the 7th. Let me say, some reps at GS were very helpful and would actually call Titleist to see if they could get a real time update. But others would say they had to "submit" the request and it could take 24-48 hours to get an answer. Silly, I thought. But whatever.

After I did not hear back from that "status request" I called again on the 10th only to be told that "someone was already working on my request." Huh. Ok. Waited another day. Still nothing. So, now somewhat irritated, I call back again. This time I got a very helpful rep who called Titleist directly. He came back to inform me that the shaft I had requested was not available anymore (then WHY is it available on YOUR order form?!?!) and that I needed to pick a new one. The really frustrating part is that he told me they knew about it for for several days and that "someone should have informed me." ARRRGHHH!!!! So, we go through the available shafts and I pick a new one, while he has Titleist on the phone, and confirms it is available.

And that leads to today, when I was FINALLY able to get a tracking number for the FedEx package!! I am certainly happy this is almost over and I HOPE they arrive intact. I just needed to vent after what feels like a very long and unnecessarily difficult process.

Anyone else ever have issues when ordering something slightly "non stock" from GS/Titleist?

Whew!! You're a patient person! I would have just gone with someone else after the first screwup!! Did they at least give you a little 'kickback' in return??

Hope you enjoy the clubs and let us know your impressions. Those AP2's are VERY nice. They were on my short list as well.

Well, I tried to get them to upgrade the shafts to Project X 5.5 but they wouldn't go for it.

Guess my negotiating skills need a little upgrade LOL...

Yea, like I said normally it has been smooth sailing for me with GS.. I have ordered things from them for several years. Normally balls, hats, gloves, etc. And one or two stock clubs. Hopefully this was just an isolated issue!

Now that most of that aggravation is behind you enjoy your Myrtle Beach trip.

Thanks! I plan to! They just updated the weather forecast while we are there Thurs - Monday... looks great! Low to mid 80's and sunny every day! Playing Tradition Club, Shaftesbury Glen (a personal fav) and Legends Heathland.

Yeah....let us know how the AP2's work out for u

Will do!

I won a closest to the pin in a tourney and the prize was a driver and driver fitting at golfsmith. It kind of stunk since there is no GS in maryland but one of my old teammates from my college golf days lives near a GS. I finally went to visit him and we went to GS where he knew the manager. They were really good for a retail store got all set up with my ft-5 and the manager said I'd have it in 2 weeks. Yeah I saw it in about a little over a month because the shaft was on back order. The kicker was I never received any notice of the back order or anything until I called. All of my other experiences with them have been great though.

I'd also like to add that I love my ft-5

Seems they are lacking in the "keeping the customer informed" department.

So where do you normally play? I was just down your way 2 Saturdays ago at Compass Pointe... second time I've played there and still don't really care for it! LOL... I'm up closer to Baltimore and typically play Rocky Point.

Trust me most of your problems were with golf smith not titleist. I deal with titleist directly and they are extremely well organized and usually tell me when I order if they are out of this shaft or that grip.
With that aside congratulations on buying the best iron set in golf (I am biased, but we all are) have fun in Myrtle.

I had a similar problem with Titleist here in Norway/UK. I ordered the 08 AP2s 4-PW since I was custom fit for those. After I place the order, I have to wait the company to get the irons from Acushnet (it was a custom order even though everything I had was standard, I guess it was the LH) for two weeks. After another week they sent them to me in right hand with Project X 5.0 shafts instead of 5.5. I sent the irons back to them only to find out that they didn't have the 08 AP2 anymore. That's when they told me I would get the 710 AP2s (after a three week wait) for the same price. Unfortunately, they couldn't get me Project X 5.5 shafts (I was expecting the upgrade since I had to go through all this hassle) so I got them with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts.
At least I have the new model and the shaft bands have my name on it!

Wow... the craziness with GS continues. I have a tracking number from Fedex, my package is on-time scheduled for delivery tomorrow and I JUST got this email from GS at 5:17 PM today:

Dear Chris, Hello. This email is in reference to your order for Titleist AP2 710 irons with True Temper Dynalite Gold Sensicore shafts. Unfortunately Titleist no longer carries this shaft with the Sensicore inserts, the closest shaft that they have is the Dynalite Gold shaft without Sensicore would this be acceptable? If you can please let me know I will inform Titleist and have your order shipped as soon as possible. Best Regards, A.B. Golfsmith International Inc Special Orders Coordinator

Ok, so I just got back from Myrtle Beach and my first 2 rounds with the new AP2's. First impression: it's a big difference from cavity back Taylor Made RAC's!!!

Wow. I was scared for a little while that I may have a made a terrible ($1000) mistake, but after I hit some shots, they are definitely getting more comfortable. When you hit them right, it's like butter. When you don't, it's like concrete LOL.

Some really positive things that stand out: stopping the ball on the green with well-hit shots is very much improved. Also, I had a few longer-range bunker shots and I was easily able to get the ball up and out with crisp shots. I clearly remember a 7-iron from about 155 yards in a fairway bunker... probably the best bunker shot of that type I have ever hit. High, with a slight draw, and to the front of the green. On another shot, with the PW, I had about 111 yards from a bunker and hit it so well it went over the green. I wasn't too unhappy though as the shot was high and exactly the right direction.

Mis-hits is something that I need to work on, obviously, because I definitely see a difference in forgiveness. Overall though, I LOVE the way they look and feel on good shots and I think I am going to like them a lot in the long run.

Bottom line: I typically shoot in the mid-80's and considering the clubs got to my house the day before I left for Myrtle and I had no real chance to hit them I feel like I did pretty good to post back-to-back 92's at Tradition Club and Shaftesbury Glen. Actually, my putting was much more concerning!! I normally have a 1.8 putting average but both rounds down there were over 2.2. Yikes! Might have to go back to the Odyssey 2-ball!
