Hmmm...12 months to live.  We will suspend all the other factors that might come into play like not feeling well enough to travel.

I haven't been to Bandon yet or Kohler.  So those might be some nice spots to hit.  I doubt that the members of Augusta National are going to be too excited about inviting me to play, like most if not all private course memberships.  I am not going to spend time begging to get on to private courses so my list would be limited to public venues.

A month in Scotland (August) would be on the list.  Set-up shop in St. Andrews and hit as many of the most interesting Scottish courses as I could manage.

As far as playing partners, I would want to drag along my regular golf buddies, close relatives who play and their families plus my wife.  It would be quite the entourage.  Not really interested in playing with any celebrities.

Betting would be anywhere from a $1 to $5 Nassau, no presses.  I may have unlimited funds but everyone else doesn't and I suspect they would let me win seeing as how I am dying and paid for their trip & golf.

Well, assuming all the invitations and arrangements could be made: Augusta, Pine Valley, Pinehurst #2, Bethpage Black, Winged Foot, Pebble Beach, Cypress Point, Olympic, Harding Park, Pastiempo, Riviera, Torrey Pines, The Old Course, Muirfield (both Muirfields-Scotland and Ohio), TPC, Bay Hill, Bandon Dunes, and Whistling Straits. If we are talking celebrities, I think I'd like to play Augusta with Phil and Freddie, The Old Course and Muirfield with Tom Watson, Muirfield Village with Jack, Bay Hill with Arnie, and Pebble Beach with Tiger. A celebrity foursome would be tough, but I think it might include Suzan Peterson, Anika Sorentstam, or maybe Lexi Thompson, plus a couple of guys--maybe Phil and Stricker. Really though, I think I might just take about 7 or 11 of my buddies(and wives if they want to go) I have played with through the years on my nickel if the funds are unlimited.

Honestly, if I really only had 12 months to live, I'm not sure how much golfing I'd be doing at all.  I'd probably spend most of my time with the family doing lots of non-golf stuff.

But I'd make sure to take one week and head up to 17-Mile drive and play all of those (public) courses a couple of times ... even Poppy Hills. ;)

I have no real desire to golf with celebrities, they don't really interest me that much.  But I guess if I knew which 3 PGA pros were the most laid back and fun to be around, it would be fun to play 18 with them.  Dufner seems like he might be one of those guys?

Monterey. ... Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay ... and if I could really sell my whole "12 months to live sob story" then perhaps also Monterey Peninsula CC, and Cypress Point.

I would definitely do the same with all the Monterey courses. Add Augusta National, St. Andrews, and Bandon Dunes to the list and I would be satisfied.

I'm not one who would want to play with a celebrity because that would probably take away from the grandeur of the course that I'm playing. The foursome for me would be my family - ideally when my two sons are old enough to play golf/drive a cart. My wife also used to play golf with me up until we had kids. I mean you have one year left, why would I want to be away from my family?

Best Regards,
Ryan

OK, I'll play. In no particular order, I'd go for:

Cypress Point

Pebble Beach

Augusta National

Spyglass

Royal Melbourne (in fact, any of the Melbourne Sandbelt courses for that matter!)

Barnbougle Dunes

Pine Valley

Loch Lomond

Cape Kidnappers

Muirfield

Pinehurst - all of them!

RCD

Merion

Royal Portrush

Shinnecock Hills

Sunningdale

That'll do. Too many to be sure and, as someone above said, I'm not sure I'd be spending my last 12 months away playing golf all the time.

Home Course: Wollaton Park GC, Nottingham, U.K.

Nice list! Most of these courses are on my list as well. I'd add National Golf Links of America, Seminole and Sand Hills and remove Sunningdale, Portrush and Loch Lomond. Troon might replace Muirfield,

If you were headed for Australasia then you should also consider the two courses at Barnbougle, Northern Tasmania (Dunes and Lost Farm), and some of the half dozen amazing courses within half an hour of Queenstown, NZ  (including Jack's Point, The Hills, Millbrook and Kelvin Heights).   Melbourne's Sandbelt and the area beyond, the Mornington Peninsula has at least half a dozen fabulous courses.   I am sure there are many others too.  New South Wales GC in Sydney is said to be fabulous - haven't played it, yet.

Assuming I have time to do all of the non-golf things on my bucket list, I would probably want to play way too many courses to name. So if I could only pick 10, it would probably be:

The Old Course

Muirfield

Troon

Carnoustie

Augusta

Pinehurst #2

Merion

Whistling Straits

Bandon Dunes

Pebble Beach

You just found out you have 12 months left on this earth - and you dont have time for tears.

You have and endless supply of dollar bills (which your wife/girlfriend quickly changes into $20's because she know what happens to dollar bills) and can play with ANYONE and ANYWHERE

Who are you playing with? (Can be ANYONE - celebrity, profesional golfer...ANYONE)

and

What course are you playing?

Lastly

Whats the bet?

Who would I play with: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Groundbreaking Scientist

Where: Pebble Beach

Bet: If I win, Woods and Nicklaus has to fund the groundbreaking scientist to find the cure for whatever disease I have.

:)

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
