to slope or not to slope?

I am considering getting a rangefinder and I am unsure whether I should get one with slope or without. I play for highschool so if I did get the slope version i wouldn't be able to use it during a match, but I was thinking if i got one with slope i could use it just to practice and get more of a feel when I'm practicing for elevation changes.

I agree. On the same note however, Leopold has a new rangefinder that supports both options. There is a special "key" that puts the rangefinder in "slope" mode.

I play for my highschool team too, and am thinking about getting a rangefinder. I would definitely get the one without scope. This will let you use it in matches and in other tournaments in the summer. I'm thinking about getting the Bushnell Tour V2.

So they can use it in competition. Plus they're cheaper that way. I'm in the market for one, and to go from 25 years of no rangefinder to one without slope correction is still going to be a huge step forward.

You guys are lucky. In TN, you can't use rangefinders in highschool matches or in TGA tourneys. :(

Unless you have trouble judging elevation change, get one without slope. The only reason I would think you should get one that measures slope is if you have a hard time doing it manually and want to start improving your feel for judging slope.

I'll echo that you should get one without slope. At your age and ability, you have a great opportunity to be a really good golfer the rest of your life, and one of the keys will be your ability to develop a good "feel" for your game. Knowing yardages precisely will be helpful, but you don't want to get so analytical with your game that you don't develop that feel.

I forgot to mention, I was fortunate to win one of the range finders being given away on this site last year and wound up getting the one without slope. I absolutely love it and never wish I had the slope option.
