Well Tiger did it again.

Anecdotal...I met Peter Jacobsen once at the local mall. I was buying shoes and he was standing over me while I was tying up a pair of shoes. Not seeing him or looking up I said to my wife "what do you think?"…she had gone around the corner to look in another store….so Jacobsen chimes in…”their definitely you…buy em” at which point I look up to find Peter smiling at me. I was stunned at first but we struck up a conversation and had a few laughs over the next hour. The next day I head out to the Kemper to watch my new best friend. Anyway, I caught up to him on the 3rd or 4th hole and said something to him regarding the shoe encounter the night before. Mind you this was not a brief “hey your Peter Jacobsen” encounter. Basically he ignored me and went straight about his game. I took it stride and sulked away having lost my new best friend’s acknowledgement. Coincidentally the following months Golf Magazine had an article by Peter Jacobsen about how tour pros concentration is such that virtually everything around them is tuned out with the exception of the shot at hand.

My point being that maybe one reason Tiger is perceived as aloof, is just that. His ability to concentrate on the task at hand may seem off putting, but it’s his zone and no one else is in it. Also, Tiger seemed quite congenial with Chris Riley during the third round of the PGA. Vijay and Phil seem and have a rep as butt heads on the course, not Tiger.

I am not even sure Tiger

notices stuff outside of his tunnel vision when on the course, let alone chooses to ignore them. He may literally not even notice. His wife (yes, HIS wife) could jump out naked in front of him and he might not notice, literally.

I've said in the past that I don't care for the way Tiger handles his emotions on the golf course (he has improved ten-fold in the past few years, however).

The way he acts (or doesn't act) towards his playing partners is perfectly fine with me though. Like Dave said, he is out there doing his job and trying to make a career out of it. As long as he shakes his playing partners' hand before and after the round, I'm ok with it. I could care less if he talks to Vijay, Phil, etc. or not. I wouldn't be out there gossiping the entire round. I might talk to my playing partners a little more than Tiger does, but I may not. It just depends on how I was playing and what kind of mood I was in. So I don't blame Tiger one bit for giving the cold shoulder on the golf course.

Erik, as crazy as that sounds, you are probably right. He is one focused dude.

If she jumps out in front of me naked, it is going to derail my train of thought for sure.

...he should post pics so we can decide for ourselves about how much of a distraction she might be...

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
