I play golf in Western New York and the greens around here are pretty rough, unless it is mid-summer. I chip with a SW now, but my next purchase is going to be a high-lofted wedge to stop the ball better. I am a pretty good artist of the flop, but with a SW its still a tough task. Can someone give me a quick review or a great wedge they have used or have in their bag that I should try. Price would be cool too, college student budget here...thanks.

I carry a Cleveland TA900 60* wedge wit low bounce. It's really, really awesome for flop shots with bite or sand shots with bite. I think I paid $50 on ebay for mine about 3-4 years ago. I'm sure they could be had for less now. I got the RTG (raw tour grind, aka raw/rust) finish, and I really like it. It's easy to flop it up high or play a normal shot that's just slightly more lofted than your sand wedge. One of the few clubs (if not the only) I haven't replaced in the last 2 years.

Used Spin milled Vokey or an older Cleveland is a great choice.
I've grown pretty fond of cleveland's line for sure.

I'm using a 60 degree vokey spin mill, with a 4 degree bounce. The grind is great for laying the club open, and it spins the ball better than older vokeys and most other wedges i've hit.

In addition to a different wedge, I'd suggest switching to a urethane-covered ball if you're indeed playing the Juice. You'll get more check/spin.

In addition to the ProV1, I'd look at the Maxfli Tour series and the Wilson FG Tour. They can really dance.

yeah i hear ya, i usually play ProV1, but im milking these Juice balls my girlfriend got me for Christmas. Im getting all sorts of praise about Cleveland wedges, so I think Ill go that route, any tips on what bounce is best?

Any thought to getting a Tom Watson LW? It would be 4 degrees higher in loft than your SW, and the same type of club with less bounce.

that depends on the type of lies u hit the ball from. If ure course is more of a harder one with tight lies and harder fairways u might be better off with a low bounce. on a softer course and softer greeens a higher bounce willl be better for u like me ( ive got a cleveland cg14 bounce 12) but i wud say u cant go wrong with a 6 .
P.S the cg is awesome =D

I tried the cleveland CG12 and CG14 I prefered the Vokeys.

not much of a difference but I find Vokeys are better out of bunkers.

Lower bounce is going to be better off of the fairway. Higher bounce is usually better out of bunkers. But it really depends on what kind of bunkers you have and what kind of bunker shot you typically play. For thicker sand, I like the low bounce version. For lighter sand, I'm fine with standard or low bounce.

Of all of the wedges I've tried or owned I like my present set the best, Niki VR wedges 54* w/ 12* bounce and 60* with 8*, I think, of bounce.
