I went up to Erie today. I have two things to work on.

First, getting the club on a better path in the backswing. Feeling the club more vertical. The club has a tendency to drop over and to the right at A4

Screen Shot 2017-02-05 at 7.54.03 PM.png

The second is working on keeping the club inside on the down swing. Not letting it tip over, sending the club on an outward swing path.

Good stuff!

I'm curious...what's the cone for?

It was used as an obstacle to help dictate my swing path. On the backswing I should just miss it on the outside. On the downswing I should miss it on the inside.

Ah, gotcha.  Is that something you'll replicate in your practice sessions also?

I played a round of golf today. It was a mixed bag. I focused on the backswing stuff for the most part.

I was getting into a bad groove of hitting some slices. I could feel inward path the hands take on my bad swings. Then I tried imagining the cone was there. I was trying to swing outside the cone in the backswing and then inside the cone in the downswing. This worked out really well, and almost had an immediate effect on my ball flight. The contact felt much more solid. The divots were much more shallow.

Good. As you know, when you play, just find a thought and play.

I had a good range session today. I worked on getting the club outside the cone on the backswing and inside the cone on the downswing. Even with out the cone visualizing it is there while I practice and hit full shots has helped a lot. Also, a slower backswing has helped.

I am not sure if I do pause in the backswing, but when I swing inside the cone in the downswing I tend to feel a slight pause when the club is in transition.

A good thing is that I am starting to feel the difference from when I swing out at the ball versus swinging inward at impact. That is good feedback to have.

On a side note. I think with my pitching I had the same issue with my full swing. I tend to hit a lot of pitches off the toe, and pull shots. I was trying out swinging more out at the ball with my pitch shots. It seemed to help.

This is a very stupid-monkeyish post. Good stuff.

Make sure you time your improvement so your index doesn't drop TOO much before the NC! ;-)

That's always how I know I'm at least starting to get a swing piece right. I may still be screwing up (reverting) some % of the time, but when I can start to feel the difference without looking at the actual video it seems like a bit of a breakthrough.

I struggled a bit at the range today. Nothing felt right to me for what I wanted to do. I'll need to work on it a bit. Most of my shots were slight pull draws.

I looked over the notes from previous lesson. I probably can do better on the back swing and definitely do better on the downswing. The best results were with a shorter more upright back swing feel.

At the range today, better results. I'll get a video up later tonight.

I need to do the back swing better. I'm struggling keeping it from looping across the line tonight. More upright and shorter.

The downswing feel that worked the best is feeling that my hands go way out towards the ball from A4

At A3.5 they look pretty similar. Club could be pointing more behind me. I really need to fix that right shoulder and right elbow with the lengthening of my swing.

Swing out more. Later on in the practice trying to feel that I was swinging my hands out towards the ball helped.

Just a bad round to start the year. I was kinda shocked that I hit 48% FIR. Honestly, it felt like 10%. I guess it was either in the fairway or searching the woods for the ball.

I also struggle with putting. My speed control was horrendous. Bermuda grass sucks. :-D Some uphill putts the grain didn't touch the ball and I would end up 4-5 FT past. Others the ball would stop way short. Of course this was the first time of the year I actually putted.

The short game was bad. I plan on going to Erie, PA for a short game less next month. In the mean time I might need to find someway to at least get inside 20 FT.

For the swing, there was some good shots. Mostly my trouble was with the driver. I would hit these straight hooks, or pull draws. The last hole, I opened the clubface and gripped the club. I hit a big hook into the trees. So I need to see what is going on with this. It might be a pull hook more than a straight hook.

I had 2-3 chunked shots from thinking too much which caused me to not turn. Lazy swings.

I know the GIR didn't show up on it, but when I was able to put the ball into play off the tee I hit a decent percentage of GIR. The other times I was punching out from the tees or taking stroke and distance penalties. I was 5/11 GIR when I didn't put the ball into trees. The rest of the those were nGIR. I just need to continue to work on my swing pieces. When I did strike the ball well I liked what I was seeing. A lot of good stuff to build off of.

DTL - 6 Iron

Backswing Piece - Hands could get deeper with the turn, club head can stay outside imaginary traffic cone. Club could stay shorter.

Downswing - Club gets steeper

DTL - 6 Irons

This swing I was more focused on carrying the hands deeper with the turn and hinging up a bit more. Though it could still be better.

Something I am trying out is feeling a pause at the top of the swing to feel the club shorter. I need to figure out how to stop the club momentum at the top to keep the swing shorter.

The swing still gets steel in transition.

Backswing Practice

DTL - Pitching

I decided to throw in a video of me pitching. I was doing about 60 yard pitch shots.

Yeah, that's swinging steep and across it quite a bit.

It's definitely been a lot better.

Yea, I'll revisit some notes on that and work on that more.
