Feel Test #1 - Just feeling only turning shallower from A4. Not sure this works out well. Lots of over the top motion in practice.

Feel Test #2 -  Trying to be a bit higher thru impact. Also, trying to keep the chest and arms turning thru to the finish.

Feel Test #3 - Feeling way more upright in the turn. Trying to keep myself from being very tilted over at impact and into the finish.

I am trying to keep from doing this. I was hoping to try to get more towards the red line with my spine tilt. Then it would title the shoulders less down.

Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 2.01.17 PM.png

End of the Bucket Test - I wanted to see what the swing would look like if I felt like I was really focusing on pointing my chest and torso to the sky sooner. I thought maybe focusing on a finish position might help keep it from getting shallower? I am going to say no, but contact was great.

Ok, so my feeling on this is that I can't focus on the turn at the top of the backswing. I feel like I get stuck behind my turn and then I stall and have that weird shoulder motion were the shoulder moves forward, and the clubhead overtakes the hands really fast post impact (see screenshots below). This is from the video yesterday.

Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 2.25.44 PM.png Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 2.25.55 PM.png Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 2.26.01 PM.png Screen Shot 2019-07-07 at 2.26.09 PM.png

I feel like the arms have to come down in front of the body then I turn. That way I don't feel like I need to do that weird shoulder move and flip post impact because the turn can take the hands thru more? I am just wondering if this is more of a sequencing issue. I could be wrong.

A tale of two nines,

The Front Nine

Swing Thoughts
1. Shorter backswing
2. Turn

Results, I struggled a ton with being stuck in the swing. I could feel the club way behind me.

I also struggled with my putting. I don't know why I tried this, but I went to more of having the inside of my elbow facing out at set up. I also added a bit more float movement with the wrist.

The Back Nine

Swing Thoughts

1. Backswing - Look at the ball, make a shorter turn
2. Downswing - Get the hands down sooner/faster. This seemed to help out a ton. I think I need to be more hands down in front of me. I also MUST keep turning. If I don't I hit weak push cuts. If I do things right I hit pretty natural ball flights

I took a lesson up in Erie with @iacas

What I am working on is from A4 to A5, I’m trying to send the handle of the club and my right shoulder out towards the ball.

From A5 thru impact, the handle of the club needs to drive down and in as I turn. I want to feel the hands pass really close to my left hip pocket. I don’t want to just drive my hands down with no turn.

Also, the club needs to feel like it’s staying open in the downswing. I’ll work on this feeling more. I think it will feel a bit like the right palm facing towards the target or up more thru impact.

Maybe some future backswing work is more vertical club to A3 with later flattening of the club (A3 to A4).

I also worked on my pitching motion. A bit more vertical hinge with proper backswing length. Then pivot faster with my arms and body turning together more. Also feel like my elbows stay closer to my body as I pivot.

The pitching work was good, and the full swing work at the proper speeds were really good.

Wen to the range and sweated it out this morning...

Practice

Trying to send the handle out more, and down left more.

Here is a bad attempt,

Titling back, hands go out an up instead of down and in.

I think this a better attempt,

This one I am trying to be a bit more flat at the top. The feel is keeping the right hand facing away from the target longer in the backswing to help it flatten later in the backswing. The downswing is the handle going down left faster.

Just comparing from yesterday to today,

IMG_3720.png IMG_3722.png

I need to continue to turn more. I think I am getting way to armsy from the top. I need to feel the path left, but it needs to happen with turning.

I'll try to add a bit more turning feel with the arms handle going left.

Another practice session.

Practicing a flatter right hand feel at the top. Slightly more vertical in the backswing with a late wrist extension on the actual swing.

This downswing feel is maintaining the right palm facing up or towards the ball, in extension through impact. I’m trying to turn my right right side through with my hands exiting left. The feel is my right palm, elbow turn thru with my right side.

When I slow it down I hit slight pull cuts.

The key for me is definitely the right palm feeling like it stays in extension. It forces me to turn.

Played 9 tonight. I start this by saying I played 9 with a tight back.

Overall, a mix of good stuff and old stuff. I need to be a bit more hands down left and turning. When I do that right things were really good. I did have some instances were I would not turn well and hit a big cut right. Gots to turn! Yea, feel the right hand stay open, and turn the right side through.

Pitching was OK, I was hitting things too far. I was catching them solid. I got to adjust my feel a bit.

Putting was really good. I like focusing on a softer right arm and keeping the right elbow close to my side so I rock my shoulders more.

Not "slowing down" will do that to you, yeah. You're probably doing much better here if they were going too far.

Just some swings from today.. Actually they are 7 irons... Oops 😉

Backswing - OK. I'd rank it C+
Downswing - I feel like the right shoulder could track more out to the ball. The right hand could keep the club open more, and I could turn more thru impact.

Downswing - This one I turn a bit better than the previous one. This is feeling like I am swinging at 60%

The Ugly - Driver

Backswing - WAY TO FRICKEN LONG! Insert every face palm emoji.
Downswing - Hanging back. Struggle to do the downswing piece correctly. Probably a lot to do with the backswing length.

Here is my trouble. When I feel like the swing is shorter, I swipe at the ball. It feels like I have no leverage over the club (right hand under). IDK.

Set up - Ball too far forward? too much tilt?
Not really looking for anything here, but I thought I post one.

Conclusion
1. Backswing length needs worked on. I need something to help it out.
2. Keep working on my downswing piece. Keep the face open in the downswing, hands go left, keep turning. Keep swings at 50-60% swing speed. When I swing fast I just introduced stalling my turn and hitting bad shots.
3. With the driver.. I just need to figure something out.

Went back to the range to work on the driver (#Newport Cup Dedication #GO BLUE!!) 😛

Driver Swing (trying to hit it 125-150 yards)

Setup - More over the ball (towards the target)
Backswing - Super slow, and not trying to let the wrist roll over.  I didn't really think much of anything else. There is also a feel of a slight pause at the top.
Downswing - Just slow. Trying to feel the right palm faces out longer. The feeling I get is into the finish with my arms and chest turning together more.

#Evidence (FEEL IS REAL 😛)
Screen Shot 2019-07-26 at 5.05.46 PM.png

Driver Swing

Driver Swing (Another)

Summary
Setup - Less spine tilt. Right hand feels more overtop of the club and less under (due to the elbow pitch)
Backswing - Staying in my set up spine tilt, turn really slowly and don't let the wrist flip over. Feel a slight pause at the top of the swing to stabilize the clubhead.
Downswing - The feeling right now is just turn towards the target. I'll try to work on the palm and hand path more, but this let me hit good shots right now. I'm just looking for something serviceable. I will continue to do the 30-40% swing speed stuff for practice.

Struggling a bit with the driver feel. Swing is stalling out, club is tilting back too much in the downswing. It’s like no matter what I do with swing, I can’t continue my turn.

Ok, I’m going with more feeing of everything going forward and swinging down left. Just swinging down left isn’t getting me to get forward as I want (I end up hitting slices). When I try to turn more and forget the hands i end up having to stall to hit the ball. When I get my upper body feeling like I am going forward it cleans up contact.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
