So today at the range I was working on getting my divot an inch or so further in front of the ball so that I could contact the face a bit lower. Rather than what would be the visual, vertical center of the face, the ball mark and grass was more around the 3rd groove or so. I realize that vertical COG varies with irons, but assuming generalities, which groove do you want to catch the ball in?

I liked catching it a bit lower than the exact vertical center because the ball flight tends to be a bit lower and the feel is less clacky. Just curious where you're supposed to catch it.

I shoot for the 4th groove and 2mm inside the COG to help with my 3 yard baby draw.

no man, you guys are doing it all wrong. you've got to hit precisely 4ncm(nano-centometers, trust me, it's a real measurement) above the 4th groove from the bottom on your short irons, and 8ncm below the 5th groove from the top with your long irons. but that's assuming the wind speed that day is less than 15.312 mph, anything more and you must adjust the calculations.

the ball mark starts at the 3rd and goes to about the 6/7 groove...that's my ideal.

I seem to hit most of them on the bottom groove at the moment! So frustrating, but they do go pretty straight with decent flight. Gonna work really hard on that in the coming weeks.
When I hit it well, it's probably between the 3rd and 4th groove.

As you can see from my handicap, I'm just trying top hit it in the middle somewhere. Y'all have me me so ashamed of being happy to hit it in the middle of the entire clubface. I have to re-think my positiion now.
