Which irons?

Burner, Burner Superlaunch, Burner Plus or Tour Burner?

The Burner irons got these lofts:

3i = 19º
4i = 21º
5i = 24º
6i = 27º
7i = 31º
8i = 35º
9i = 40º
PW = 45º

The loft of the clubs tend to go down on many manufacturers.
Titleist AP1, 3 to PW:

20° 23° 26° 29° 33° 37° 41° 45°

Ogio Grom | Callaway X Hot Pro | Callaway X-Utility 3i | Mizuno MX-700 23º | Titleist Vokey SM 52.08, 58.12 | Mizuno MX-700 15º | Titleist 910 D2 9,5º | Scotty Cameron Newport 2 | Titleist Pro V1x and Taylormade Penta | Leupold GX-1

The answer is, it depends what you are comparing them to. I have a set of Burners and the lofts are generally about 3* stronger than the previous set of Callaways I had. Manufacturers tweak lofts often, it is an easy way of "getting more distance". Persoanlly I don't care if my club is labeled 6, 7 or 8 as long as I know how far I hit it. I would actually prefer that all clubs drop the numbering and just put the loft then there is no guessing from one set to another.

As for the OP, I like my Burner's quite a bit. I don't really find them clunky for me. All swings are different but they seem to suit mine well.

Everyone I've talked to on forums who have them defends them wholeheartedly. That must say something about them.

I have the 2009 TM Burner irons and am very happy with them. I upgraded from old Titleist 804 irons and these are lighter and much easier to hit. The long irons take some getting used to because the shaft is about 1/2-1 inch longer than most long irons, but they absolutely jump off the face once you hit em right. They don't feel clunky to me... on the contrary they're quite workable for game improvement irons.

Every manufacturer across the board is doing this, it's not just Taylormade.

I play the '09 Burners but haven't hit the 2010s yet. I have hit the new R9s and really like them. They appear to have more of a players profile when viewed at setup but I think they're more forgiving than the Burners. Give them a try if you think the 2010 Burners are too blocky.

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

The new burners are pretty good, but I like the r7s better. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority with that opinion.

I'm with the other guys who say they don't care about the lofts. As long as I know the distance, I don't care if it says 6, 7, 8, squirrel, lucky or Fido on the bottom of my club, as long as I can hit it consistently.

What's in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag:

Driver - Taylormade Superfast 2.0 TP 10.5
3 Wood - Taylormade Burner 15* REAX

SW - Cleveland CG 12 56*

LW - Cleveland CG15 60*
