Callaway X-Forged

Hi, im 15 years old and i am able to play a lot so im getting better. Right now i play Cleveland CG Golds (GI iron) with a regular shaft and im looking for new irons this summer because i will soon need a longer shaft (6 ft and getting taller) and stiff shafts. I like the feel of these irons, would they be a good choice? Any suggestions of other better player irons with forgiveness?

have heard this question a lot. try the mp line of mizuno. particularly the 52 and 58. beautiful feel and a perfect blend almost of forgiveness and workability. perhapsa a bit on th mbetter players side. but if u think u can cope with th x forged dont let me tell u any different. =P

You are going to get a ton of responses on this site for mizuno irons... But, they do make a great product.

Do you really want a forged blade? How is your ball striking and greens in regulation?

While you may need longer and stiffer clubs, I'd hold off on blades until you are done growing and filling out. You swing and your ball striking will only get better as you play. I play blades now, and I've hit the x-forged. They are great, but they aren't cheap and they still look like a Callaway.

For the time being, I'd strongly consider something along the lines of the mp58 or Titleist, or AP-2. Something forgiving enough to reward you on slight misses... this will help if you are playing high school golf. Lot's of pro's and collegiate players play mixed sets and cavity backs.

You could also try AP2s it wont be a tough transistion from your cg4s (having played them both)

how are the mizuno mp58's more forgiving than the ap2's? or are they equally forgiving

Usually I discourage amateur players to hold off on trying to get to the blades but if you're shooting single digit h'cap and you're comfortable with blades, then the X-forged is a great choice in my opinion. It certainly isnt the hardest irons to hit but takes a proper swing to hit it well.

I got my X-forged not too long ago and really enjoy hitting them. Other choices I was looking at was the Mizuno MP62, MP52 as I was an avid Mizuno Tzoid player for years prior, as well as the Titleist AP2 (I used to play the old DCI's for a short while when I played competitively).

I was personally never a big fan of the older Callaway iron models but demoed the X-forged set just to try it out. The X-forged, being a slight cavity back had a smoother and a slight more forgiving feel to it without sacrificing the control you get from a blade. Great irons in my opinon for a player.

i am not a single digit handicap, yet i just recently bought my x-forged on clearance for about 400 and i love them. when i was searching for new irons i spent months hitting clubs before setting my decsion on x-forged. Great buy mishits arent too bad, just make sure you can execute a consistant swing.

I don't get it.  The X-forged felt like a game improvement iron to me, I had no problems hitting it solid.  The X-Proto's were a bit tougher, but still one of the easier blades I have hit IMO.....

I have X-Forged 2009 irons. They're quite nice and Endo forged. They have amazing feel: nearly as soft as a Mizuno but not quite. Which is a good thing for me because Mizunos are almost too soft. The X-Forged 2009's are much improved 2006 version due to a better sole grind. Graeme McDowell used them this year, so they're plenty of club to do whatever you want with them; i.g. they're not just GI+ clubs.

Anyone that tells you to play or not play blades based on your handicap should go kick rocks. It all depends on your ball striking... Can you make consistent contact withe the ball first before you hit the ground? If so, blades are perfectly OK.
