This year I was in need of a new iron set, as I wanted an iron that was more workable and accurate. I was expecting to lose a couple yards due to the higher lofts. This was not the case for me as I gained 5-10 yards with the Mp 68's over the MacGregor MT forged i was using.

As anyone else had a similar experience to mine.

Yep, I gained a few yards too. Anytime you are moving from a perimeter weighted club to a muscle back or blade type of club, you'll typically gain a few yards on well-struck shots due to the increased mass right behind the ball and energy transfer (BOOOM POW!) as a result. Newer cavity-back irons with hotter faces are changing this, but I'll keep my blades, feel and distance.

there is no real distance gain switching from cavity to blades. it all depends on the loft, while some companies(ie Titliest) have weaker lofts than most companies, others such as taylormade have extremely strong loft. so its not the type of club, its the loft of the club. one thing you will find in golf is that there are NO STANDARDS. this applies to length, loft, lie, and shaft flexes and varies between OEM's.

What tim31x said, kind-of. I hit my blades about the same distance as I hit a cavity back (club for club). My blades have more loft than a comparable CB iron though. In some cases as much as 3-4' more loft.

CB have lower loft because they launch the ball higher.

Blades have more loft because they launch it lower.

Even with the added decreased loft, cavity backs still go too high for my liking. From the fairway, my perimeter weighted clubs (which I consider Apex channelbacks to be) are about the same length.

Same here, which is why I play blades. I can't keep the ball down w/CB's which is especially a problem in the wind. I can control trajectory much better w/a blade (higher CG). With blades I can get away with playing a softer shaft too (DG S300 vs X100).

With blades, I have better control of the club, which I guess could add distance if i'm hitting the sweet spot more often.

If you hit the ball well EVERY time, you will benefit from forged and bladed clubs, recently i spent £400 on a new set of forged clubs, they are amazing! and i am a 19 handi capper! imagine if you had a low handicap!
