Still on my Driver Shopping Quest. Thus far, I've hit two that have been in the Solid, Straight, and Consistent camp... at least as far as the launch monitor has told me.

The best by far I hit just today (Hence a thread). Now, I'm not normally a fan of EITHER of the afore-mentioned two drivers, but... hey, if it works I don't care what idiot has stamped his name on the thing.

#1 Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5* (Stiff). This thing I loved to the degree that I was vaguely tempted to ignore the price tag. A dozen balls hit on the monitor... Sitting at about a 15* launch, Mid-90's CHS, Mid 130's BS... about 220-230 carry and 240-250 distance. 5 yard draw down the middle. Impact tape had me only hitting one outlier on the sweet spot 256, the rest were about a half-inch up and in toward the heel. I really liked the smaller head at address -- Sales dude said 430cc, reviews said anywhere from 430-450cc. Either way, it's smaller. Whatever, I liked it.

Other driver was a TM R7 SuperQuad 9.0. Similar numbers, though not quite as consistent. Now, I'm really not in a place where I can drop 300 on a golf club, though I loved the DE Tour (They had to go and sweeten the deal by offering a 150 dollar camera, but... value aside, I STILL don't need to be dropping 300 bucks. I just moved and haven't gotten the new job paycheck, yet. *hah*)

What would be some comparable drivers in older models? I think the only differences with the 'Tour' model is that the face is a degree open, and it's a bit smaller than today's monster 460cc drivers.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
