""Apparently you don't. Courses have nine-hole ratings, course ratings themselves include the decimal (even if it's 70.0, but that's unlikely, and par isn't the same as the course rating), and you made no mention of those things OR the 0.96 multiplier."" Quoted from Eric on another thread.

Did I read this right that a 9 hole rating/slope is different from 18 on the same course?

I have been using oobgolf and when it asks for rating and slope it mentions that most 9 hole are half of the 18 hole numbers. So I was just dividing by 2 to the nearest .10. Is this wrong? I haven't seen a different rating/slope on the card except that some have one for black/blue/white/green.

I think I divided both in half, but will double check and edit if not true... EDIT: it only allows to divide the rating. Slope must be greater than 70.

So - As an Example Course A has 65.9/105. I entered 33.0/105. I assumed it better to round up to ensure I don't sway the math to my favor. /EDIT:

That's how I do it too when entering scores for my local district, I divide the rating by 1/2 and leave the slope the same. There probably is a way to get the exact rating for the front/back, but it can't amount for much error.

Yeah, there is - the course should know what the rating/slope are for the front/back nine. You can ask them.

And yes, courses have different ratings for the front/back. The total slope is the average of the two, and the total rating is the sum of the two.

Thanks! That helps. I use the Chicago CDGA and they have all that info in the database for their affiliated courses, but I must find and enter it for non-affiliated couurses. One of the unaffiliated courses I play has three nines, with separate ratings/slopes reported on the scorecard for all three, but I see now that they double the ratings for each nine. This will allow me to enter the proper rating/slope now for the full 18.

Thanks IACAS -

Maybe one day I will man up and play 18 holes, but until then I'll double check the course staff.

http://63.240.106.223/natcrsrating/ncrlisting.aspx That link is from the USGA's website and should give you all the information you need to know abotu any course you'll play. It divides the CR/slope for each nine (or at least it should).
