Fake Scotty?

Good call But, Many fake selling stores are here today gone tomorrow. Also a place selling fake stuff will likely tell you to piss up a rope because there in China. If it really was a legit store you may get somewhere, but I doubt they were legit.

This seems to be more about you than him.. He's got a putter that he's happy with, and you are the one who's upset about it. If you "demanded" to see a serial number on his putter, you might end up wearing it on your head. It's pretty obvious that you think that there is some kind of cachet in owning a mass produced off the rack putter and you are irritated because he thinks the same and may have paid less than you. And don't pretend that you have any interest in identifying a dodgy seller because he's had it for almost two years.

The idea of getting a cheap putter authenticated is an expensive and ridiculous proposition. It's not as if it's a putter that has any value, like one owned by a famous tour player and you want to be sure. Let him use his putter and you use yours.

Here's the real question: does it putt like yours? IOW, can you feel the difference in the putter? If you can, it should make you feel good that you made a wise investiment and your buddy did not. If it doesn't, you have to ask yourself why you overpaid $250 for a putter.

Well, when I said I'm going to demand I see the SN I was more or less kidding. I said it in jest.

As for me being upset? No, I wouldn't say I'm upset at all. No, I never said my intention was to "catch" a bad seller at all. I'll admit that that's not my main intention. Actually, come to think of it, I don't really have any inentions at all here. I just started this thread to ask for people's input on the subject of fake SC putters. Do I think my partner should know if it's fake? Well, you can make an argument for both sides on that one.

I stated before. My natural swing is left handed, so I putt left handed, even though I golf right. (Yeah, I'm one of those guys)

My partner's putter is RH. I tried it only a few times and putting RH, I just can't really get a decent feel for any putter. Whatever kind it is. So, I have nothing to add as to how it feels because I really can't give a good answer.

Honestly this is what I would do:

Next time you guys are in the Pro Shop ask the worker if Scotty's warranty covers Rust(We already know that it does). The Worker will say yes, your buddy is happy(because he thinks his scotty will get fixed free of charge). Then when he sends it in Scotty will either fix it(verifying it real) or send it back(stating that its a fake).

Now you not the bad guy and BOTH of you can be like WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS FAKE?!?!?!?!

Also, I'm guessing your buddy KNOWS its fake and if he says "NAH, there is no reason to send it in to get fixed" will verify that he knows its fake and you have your answer(again with out causing any trouble).

I really don't see why you care so much BUT if you really must know I would try what I have suggested above /Shrug

I have a friend who also bought a Scotty Cameron from Amazon.com and its definitely a fake. The chrome on the shaft is peeling and the color is not right. He spend aboout $250.

I have a cheap putter that came with a kmart golf set that i use all the time, I think people overpay for any putter. I would put exactly the same if I had a scotty cameron or my $20 putter, might be slightly better but I doubt it would make much difference. Im to the point now that I dont care what name it says on it, its whether or not it helps me play better or not.

The rust on the shaft is in no way an indicator of a fake scotty or any club. If it wasn't stored properly or got damp for a long period of time it will rust. I have a real vokey that I've barely used but played in the rain a couple times with it and forgot to dry it so it rusted. Chrome polish will clean it up good and putting it on all steel shafts once a year will prevent rust. The head cover is a little weird and I don't think it confirms it's a fake but it would make me investigate. I'd bring it up to him at some point when the time is right.
