Consider the pressure point under your left arm. If you have a cigar in your armpit, attempt to squeeze it throughout the backswing. If pressure starts at a 4, it should go to a 9 or 10 at the end of the backswing.

Oh, and doing this will automatically shorten the backswing.

Cool, I'll focus on that as well next time I'm at the range. Thanks!

Played 18 yesterday and overall struck the ball much better. 8 - wedges were really good except for a few pulls which were the result of over swinging. The long irons were not good though. Often, I was hitting weak, low hooks. Regarding the armpit pressure points, should this change at all as the clubs get longer?

Pressure points stay the same. With the longer clubs it is more important to get your hips forward going into impact. As the loft on the club decreases, you need more secondary axis tilt (front hip more in front of head) to achieve the desired ball flight height.

So....just a quick update. I need to get some video because since I have started working on "deep hands" my ball striking has improved dramatically. However, I can no longer hit my driver to save my life. Seemingly everything is a weak hook with a ton of side spin. I played a tough course yesterday and was so out of position off the tee that I hardly had a chance to hit good iron shots. The two fairways that I managed to hit with driver I put both second shots on the green and made par each time. At some point out of frustration, I tried switching to my 3-wood and had the same problem. Eventually I limped in using my 4-iron off the tee, which is fine except that this course was pretty long and then I really didn't have much chance at hitting greens.

Since I don't have video I guess this is just more of a rant, but if anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear them.

I'm no expert, but I'd say your swing is basically fine,

especially for a 20,

and nothing really bad stands out,

other than the ignorance

any normal amateur (including me) has over the elements of the swing.

IMO you won't find the secret answer posting your swings.

Just keep learning about swings in general

and experiment with different variables.

Be patient, keep smiling, and follow the rules.

OK, here are my latest swings taken today. It looks to me like I'm getting the hands back outside a bit and my backswing is long on all 3 clubs. Interestingly though, I seem to be striking the ball better than I have been all season. Which figures, since winter is about to stop golf for a while...anyways, I really want to get my swing consistent and repeatable so any tips for stuff to work on over the winter would be much appreciated. At least I can go to the range all year.

    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
