I don't recall hearing any of that during a lesson.

Yeah-there's definitely a weight transfer/shift, but 80% on the right foot seems excessive. For me that leads to pushes and slices.

No need to take my word for it. You can do your own research and talk to your own pro about this. I was just making the point that there is a weight transfer, and it's significant. I'm not telling anyone to bust out scales and make sure 80% of your weight is transferred.

I don't understand what point you are trying to make. Are you saying there is a problem with the points I've been making? Or simply that your golf pro never told you these things?

By the way Teddy, in case you think I'm making numbers up about weight transfer:

Your illustration of weight shift (~80%) is congruent with lessons from my swing coach growing up. I think many players fail to recognize how important a proper weight shift is in a traditional golf swing.

Everyone's a "feel" player to some extent. The problem is too many people say "I'm a feel player" and don't realize that the true trick is "feeling" the right mechanics. "Feel isn't real" for a lot of people - the vast majority.

BTW, I'm not considering putting, short game, or in-between shots. You need to have good mechanics (and hit the ball solidly), but they're "feel" based. You can't develop feel if you can't hit the ball consistently.

There are many kinds of feel. Two of the main ones are

mechanic feel and straight feel. Mechanic feel is the ability(whether granted or engrained) to feel what a CORRECT swing is, and it 'feeling' correct as well. Make sense?

Straight feel is basically doing what your body wants, regardless of it being correct or not.

I am a mechanic feel player myself.(It was granted. And yes. I still mishit the ball.)

i admit to knowing hardly anything about stack and tilt, but say original poster wanted to pursue this seemingly legit method. would he still follow putting weight on back leg and then shifting. all i have heard about s and t is that you stay on the front, but am not sure if thats even right.

IMO, practice mechanics, then play by feel. Train yourself so that what "feels" right is technically sound. Maybe you can hold on to one thought during your actual swing, but more than that and you'll do yourself more harm than good.

Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

well, you don't feel your fundamentals, those, you just gotta do, and it'll feel funny if you're re-correcting them so I don't try to feel that out. However, when I play, all I focus on is feeling what I'm doing with that club head. That helps me with tempo, swing path, alignment, and distance control, if not a whole bunch of other things I don't pay attention to. The simpler I get, the better I play, and the feel of just tossing that little ball over there gets me through the round.

I have one swing thought. And it depends on what I'm hitting.

Putter- don't move the head
chipping- don't move the head
Irons and driver- turn turn.(Meaning, turn my shoulders completely and fire my hips. Turn turn is just a faster way of saying it)
Fairway bunkers- Release a fraction early(Or cast, if you prefer)
Normal bunkers- early wrist hinge
While walking along the fairway- DO NOT THINK. (Oxymoron. I know.)
