does anyone here lift weights for golf? Or do any core work or anything?

if i was to start lifting specifically for golf, how much would it help me?

Yep, definitely,

Do a lot of core training,

Abs, gluts, hamstrings, quads, lower back, lats. These muscles will give you explosive power and stability.

I lift weights but its more because I want a muscular build than because its good for my gold swing. Strengthing your core will help with your golf swing, as will improving our flexibility. You just want to be careful not to bulk up too much because its going to restrict your flexibility and actually hurt your swing.

Not sure how old you are, but at any age really, core workout is very beneficial. It's most beneficial for those at an older age because if you build your core strength you can avoid a lot of the isms that come with being older.

My dad and I went to a personal trainer as a part of a new gym we signed up at while he was on a nice (but too short, if possible) vacation (unemployed) and he benefited greatly.

Your core strength and flexibility is additionally essential in golf, but I would do it based on the sheer fact of only good coming out of it.

I work out some with weights and do some jogging, but its not really golf related, just to keep myself in reasonably good shape and if I dont do it I just dont feel right. Im not super buff or anything but just trying to maintain some level of fitness, my job is sometimes pretty physically demanding so being out of shape would make it very difficult. I'm 5'11", about 195 stronger than average at least, i just wish i could translate all of my strength to a good swing and hit it farther. As far as worrying about bulking up, unless you have great genetics I doubt most people have that problem, ive been lifting and working out for about 15 years though i was a pretty skinny kid back then, I dont exactly look like Mr Olympia now and most people wont.

Whenever I lift heavy and hard enough to get sore for a day or two - especially upper body - my swing goes to pot (and it isn't the most consistent swing in the world to begin with). I think tearing down muscle is good for strength gains, but it's hell on muscle memory. Of course, soreness isn't good for flexibility either.

You can lay up when your dead.

I would go with circuit training, it lets you build up muscle slowly and do one heck of a cardio work out. Basically its alot of resistance training and constant movement. I take a class every monday and wednesday, its basically 40 minutes of hell. I though i was in better shape after loosing 45lbs, and been weight lifting for about a year in a half, i hit this class and i was so wrong.

Yup, core strength is what you want for golf.

my question is, why are there so many fat guys with big bellys in the pga. Alot look they dont go near a gym,lol,

Golf doesnt exactly require one to be in peak physical condition. Just because someone is fat, that doesnt mean they arent strong.
