Right now, as reflected in my HC, I would say that about 2% of my shots are what I would define as "perfect", i.e., hit flush, straight as an arrow, great trajectory, perfect distance, IOW a shot that even a Tour player would be happy with.

Another 30% would be good - slight draw or fade, good distance, but maybe 5-7 yds short/long of ideal length, something that I could follow up with a par, and occasionally a birdie.

Another 50% would be OK - not a hook or slice but getting close to it, hit it fat or thin and thus long or short by 15-20 yds. Potential par, but easily could be bogey.

The last group is just plain mediocre, stupid shots that almost inevitably result in a bogey and potentially a double or worse. This is 20%

So, my summary is:

Great/perfect - 2%
Good - 30%
OK - 50%
Mediocre - 20%

And yes, I realize this adds up to 103%, but my "perfect" cateogry is so small it is really just a footnote. I think if I am ever going to end up with a sinlge-digit HC I am going to have to get to the following:

Great/perfect - 5%
Good - 60%
OK - 30%
Mediocre - 5%

What about the rest of you?

Based on your definitions, I'd estimate my breakdown as:

Perfect - 8%
Good - 52%
OK - 32%
Bad - 8%

I get this from the fact that I hit maybe 4 absolutely perfect and 4 just god-awful shots per round, which is about 8% of my average number of non-putts. The good versus OK is just an estimate, but I think I hit maybe 60% of my shots at least solid, though with my putting and short short game skills, that doesn't always lead to birdies/pars :)

Hmmm, never really broke it down that way. I typically go through a round mentally, afterward, and assign a grade to each shot, A-F.

Using your system, I will wildly guess:

Perfect: 8%
Good: 35%
OK: 40%
Mediocre (at best): 17%

Seems a little high on the Good-OK ratings... Probably a touch lower there, realistically.

BTW yours actually add up to 102% (not 103).

Thanks for the brain exercise. Need a beer now.

Perfect - .10%
Good - 50%
OK - 40%
Bad - 9.9%

If I could even hit 5% perfect, I would have more holes in ones, eagles and double eagles.

I would say that I only hit 1 or 2 "perfect" shots per round... I'm pretty fussy and I've been around too many great players to accept anything less

I have a lot of really good misses where I know I haven't hit it perfect, but the end result is usually more than acceptable.

I probably only hit 1 or 2 really bad shots per round where it ends up costing me.

Ben Hogan used to say he would only hit 1 or 2 perfect shots a round, and he is generally considered one of the best ball strikers we've ever seen in the game.

I see you didn't mention putting so I'm not going to consider putting isn't averaged in. As my putting is my strongest part of my game.
This is how I estimate my shots right now. My estimates of Good shots or OK shots might be different than ours. I tend to be hard on myself.
This is where I'm at right now. I have now put my Driver back into my bag and need to learn to hit it to advance my game. I used no Drivers/Woods all of last year and dropped my Handicap below a 10. But since I added my Driver back in, it has jumped up a bit.

Perfect - 3% - Hit 2 to 3 perfect shots per round.
Good - 20% - These are usually are my wedges, fairway, and a few recovery shots.
OK - 58% - Typical recovery shot form under trees or out of the rock/fringe/bunker.
Bad - 19% - My driver! Which is why I scramble so much. One or two recovery shots could be here as well.

Perfect - 5% Maybe 1 long shot and a couple chips/pitches
Good - 40% Some longer shots and a lot of chips/pitches
Mediocre - 30% Mostly longer shots and a few chips/pitches
Bad - 25% Almost exclusively longer shots

As you can tell, I struggle a lot with my long game and my short game is what allows me to shoot decent scores. If I ever get a decent long game I'll be good to go

Perfect - 2 or 3 a round, 2%
Good - 38%
Mediocre - 45% to 55%: If it's 45, I'm breaking 80 or close, if it's 55, i'm shooting in the mid-80s
Bad - 5 to 15%: Most of these are the result of mental game errors - mismanagement, overthinking, trying to pull something off when I should just play sensibly, etc.
