Center of the green is usually good advice but there are exceptions. Since we are not as accurate as pros, it is helpful to know where is the best place to miss. So, if there is a bad news bunker dead in front of the green, plan on a slightly longer shot if the pin is centered, or left or right if the pin is to either side.

Am I the only one then who will aim at the other side of the green then unless major trouble like OOB or water is on that side? That way I am more than likely to leave myself a putt if straight, a lot of green to work with or a bonus of being close to the pin. It lessens the chances as far as I am concerned of short siding myself.

Considering most players end up short of the hole already, aiming for the center of the green(from front to back) in situations where the flag is in the back of the green and quite accessible seems counter-intuitive.

Most players end up short because their ego can't accept that the club they need. I've seen way too many people pull out a pitching wedge at 150 yards and try to kill it. Again, in approach shots, I'm just looking to get on the green, and I'll take as much club as I need to get there.

I think that's what he means. The average player shooting for the centre of the green will come up short of the entire green, not just the flag, omre times than not. If he or she were to take more club and try to get their ball all the way to a back pin, they'd at the veryly least be improving their chance of getting to the middle of the green.

That's exactly what I'm saying.
