Are you finding your blades’ higher center of gravity a problem given new ball designs(less spin, post-balata), and if so what adjustments are you making?

Well I never really hit blades in the balata days but my new blades give such a strong penetrating ball flight that I think the COG is perfect. Also the control with the long irons is just mind-blowing.

I opened this thread ready to direct you to the search window - I see this isn't a debate. This is also not a 2010 issue - when was the last time you played a wound ball? Did you just step out of a time machine?

Only played one box of balatas, but I did played a lot of wound balls. They didn't go too high, but they were too erratic due to the design and my swing - 2 piece didn't feel as good but they were same ball from box to box. I also tried the Maxfli HT Tour balls for a while but too many out of round after a couple holes. Even the worst balls on the market (insert most hated ball here) are still better than the balls I typically played 10-15 years ago, so I got no issues.

No and none.

Not at all. If anything, I wouldn't mind launching the ball a bit lower even. I like a higher COG though, it means that I can get away with playing with a softer shaft. If I go w/a lower COG, I have to go with an X100 (or even a X100 tipped) to get the ball flight down. With the higher COG of my musclebacks, I can get away with an S300 (tipped roughly 1/4").

Actually the old tour wound balls launched lower with more spin than today's multi-layer balls. Balata was the softest cover created and much softer than today's urethane. You think you scuff a ball with a well struck spin milled wedge? Hitting a balata with worn V grooves tore it to shreds. Blade technology hasn't changed much in the last 15 years (at least center of gravity wise) and it's easier to get a pro V1 in the air than an old balata. If you remember when the pro V1 first came out it included "drop and stop technology" since the ball didn't spin as much as the softer covered wound balls. They just made them launch higher so they would descend steeper and hold the greens with less spin.

No problems here, I like the ball flight I get with them... it's very true and consistent.
