I think its weird how clubs drop in price so drastically. I just got a Callaway FT-5 driver that cost 430.00 new 2 years ago for 128.00 bucks in nearly new condition. I think they sell for like 150 or so brand new now. I mean whats the point in dropping price so drastically, Technology does not change that much in a year or so especially when a company has been selling clubs for years and years. Its almost stupid to buy a new driver that just came out when they drop in price hundreds of dollars in a year. Just because these club makers make little tweaks to the clubs or come out with different ones doesnt make them better than a previous club. You could have a amazing club but have to change it in a year or so just so you can come out with a "new" product to sell.

Agreed! I'm not into used clubs, but usually buy the 1-2 year old stuff from the clearance bin or websites like Rockbottomgolf. Golf clubs depreciate almost as fast as electronics/computers do.

yea Im not into used clubs either, but I did get a ft-5 rated as "like new" condition, I am hesitant to buy one in "average" condition. Heard nothing but good reviews about callaways pre owned stuff.

Prices drop because demand drops and supply (of good condition, matching used clubs) rises. Lots of people will trade in their clubs for the newest one, year in and year out. I'm somewhat upset that one particular friend of a friend is left handed, because he's good for two sets of new clubs a year, and I'd love his hand-me-downs!

Me? I'm happy to spend $120 on a driver I had contemplated when it was full price.

Used golf clubs are not like used socks, they're more like buying a used car. I've got no problem with used clubs (or used cars) as long as they're in decent condition. And I'll happily pay $10 for a 10 year old driver that might have cost $300-$400 when it was new.

Manufacturers and retailers will charge what the market will pay. And I'd probably pay it if I could afford to. I'm glad many do because they keep the market moving.

Dont get me wrong I wouldnt buy a club thats 10 years old thinking it wil perform the same as a driver just released. Thats not reasonable with technology but There is not much difference between most drivers in the same line 2 years apart unless there are big changes that people know about. Its best to read reviews on each driver and base your decision off which one you want to buy. Ive read reviews that people like the ft-5 better than the ft-9 and Ive also read that people thought the ft-5 was better than the previous ft-3. So really you have to educate yourself before you buy too.

Another example are the x-22 irons. I had those for two weeks on the course and they perform exactly the same as the x-20's or x-18 but you are going to be paying hundreds of dollars more for the x-22 simply because they are newer. I also think the x-22's are uglier than previous models as well but they are still alot more expensive.
