My club had a Mizuno fitting today and I signed up for a slot after my morning 18, my hogans are showing wear and I though might replace them with something current.

I was very impressed by the feel of the Mizunos and the expertise of the fitter. The shaft fitting was especially impressive and I truly haven't hit the ball with such a low dispersion in a while. I ended liking the KBS shaft the best.

I hit the 68's, 62's and 58's. They all look similar from the top, at least the six iron does. The feel was great though I am in love with the 68's. They felt so good and responsive, I am hooked. The fitter had his set of 68's there and we have the same lie and length so he also let me hit the others in the set, WOW!

Anybody play these or decided between the 62's and 68's? I think I'm decided but curious...and also excited at the prospect of some new toys.

You really cant go wrong with any of the Mizzy's

You know you can mix them, instead of picking one or the other, right? Many people have 68s for their short irons and 62s for the longer ones, or similar mixes from different players' cavity / blades sets. Brian Gay won two tournaments last year with a 3-way mix of Mizuno irons (MX-? for 3,4 ; MP-60 for 5-8 ; MP-33 for 9,P).

Which Hogan model are you replacing (plus a year/version if the answer is "Apex")? Blades or a forged perimiter weighted?

Either way, good choices on the possible replacements!!

My latest and current set are FTX's from 2005, before that I had the pc's.

Yes, in fact I think that I will go 5-pw in the 68's and then the equivalent 4 iron in the HI-FLI, 3 hybrid and then stick with my Callaway 4W and Driver. Currently I don't carry either my 4 or 3 iron having replaced them with Hybrids a while back. I like the feel of the new Mizuno wedges (had the previous model in 2005 and sold them because I didn't like the leading edge) and will replace my Hogan Rivieras with the same lofts in the Mizuno, probably in the black satin.

Solid choices. You might be a club longer with the 68s, so probably no need for a 3-iron.

BTW - I love(d) my Apex PCs (when my game was on). Mizunos are the only irons I've hit that even come close.

  • 3 weeks later...
Just got them in yesterday.

mp68 p-5 , mp fli hi 4, 52, 56 and 60 wedges, mp clk hybrid.

Played nine holes today and as expected they felt great. The irons felt solid from the get go, but i will need to get used to the stiffer and slightly longer shaft in the wedges. My 3/4 shots were all a bit long, not much but enough to need a bit of getting used to. All in all really happy with them and the KBS shafts are really precise. Can't wait to play 18 on Saturday. Haven't hit the hybrid yet, it won't be in till the end of the month.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
