I've picked golf back up after about 3 years away. Played 20 rounds a year before, and then 3 years of nothing.

About 3 weeks in now, and my wrist/fingers are killing me.. is this just due to a layoff? or could there be a grip/swing mechanic issue that's causing this?
Is this common?

Thanks!

I notice that my fingers are sore on my left hand, being a rightly i guess that makes sense as I use those fingers to grip the club. I never wear a glove when playing or at the range, might help i suppose but never felt right. Might be too strong a grip, not sure, its just not severe enough to worry about yet.

I think your body needs to adjust. I'm in roughly the same position, hadn't played for a long time and have now started to practice every day if I can. My wrists were constantly twinging for the first few weeks, but that's now gone away. Either I stopped hitting the big ball so hard, or they've shaped up. My left thumb was really tender down at the first joint and that's still niggling a bit, but it's not getting any worse. I have some epic callouses on the right hand (that sounds kinda bad) -- if it's that sort of discomfort just tape them up before you play.

Stretch.

Now that I think about it more, its mostly just one finger that hurts and its a finger I hurt as a child so thats probably why its sore, so probably not much i can do about that. I smashed it playing on something i shouldnt have when i was about 8 years old, i still cant bend it fully so forcing it beyond its comfortable range of motion causes it to be sore. Golf uses a lot more muscles than people think, back, shoulders, hips, etc so being sore after a long time away is probably normal.

My right hand's index finger seems to hurt now and then, although I haven't tried to correlate it with golf. It could be. Or it could be from writing. I'd be curious to know. I have a medical checkup not too far in the future, so I will try to ask then.
