How do you decrease the height of your ball flight? I have been hitting the ball extremely high with all of my clubs.

If your hitting it high, it probably means you're swing is too steep. To decrease the trajectory of your ball you just want to flatten your swing a little bit. But that's easier said than done. And as a 17 handicap I'm probably not the one to tell you how to go about that.

There are more factors than what DaSportsGuy mentioned. Ball type, club weighting, address setup all affect trajectory. The best way to hit a lower ball is simply not to swing as hard, i.e. play a longer club with a shorter swing. The harder you hit the ball, the more backspin you create. The more backspin you create, the higher the ball will climb. This can also be mitigated by playing a ball that doesn't spin as much.

Could dipping your back shoulder on the down swing cause this?

???? a high trajectory is caused from a shallow swing and/or an open clubface. the steeper the swing the more the club will be delofted. to the op, strengthen your grip and make sure you're coming from the inside.

harder you swing.. the more spin. so take more club and swing easier. ive taken 6 iron from 120yards before; its fun

Couldn't this be a matter of playing the ball too far forward in your stance? Middle of the stance is a good starting point.

With the high ball flight, are you making good contact and is the ball going where you intend? If you're hitting them pure, but ballflight is still too high (and perhaps ballooning), it might be time to ditch the game-improvement irons and go for players' irons as they usually have a higher CG (oh no, not that thread/debate again!), and also consider "Ball-fitting" -- as some golf balls are designed to launch much higher than others (esp many 2-piece soft core balls)...you may do better with a ball with "tour trajectory".

Like some of the others said, use more club and dont swing as hard.
Id be looking at your shafts though. Its very possible that they simply arent right for you.
