I played Kaluhyat last year and had a blast. Of course, my game left me on the second tee and we can say that I definitely got my money's worth of the course.

Anyway, has anyone played any of the other courses? I have heard that Shenendoah is a great course. I have a three day, three night package booked with five rounds at both (2) Shenendoah and (3) Kaluhyat (couldn't play the Championship course as it is closed for the Turning Stone Classic).

Some of the toughest resort courses I've ever seen. Most resort courses have the occasional "tough" hole but with wide fairways and generous greens. They typically want people to have fun. Those courses, man - the easiest is the one they play the PGA Tour event on (by far). Some holes you don't know where you're going and they're just tough all around. Doesn't help that it can get awfully windy.

I'm not saying they're super-tough golf courses - they're just incredibly tough for a resort.

Played there last September (2011). All 3 are quite tough with the PGA course being the most wide open. Need to play each a couple of times to get a good feel for the courses. Shenandoah will test all aspects of your game and Kaluhyut will punish you if you are not accurate tee to green! Have played at other resorts(Treetops, Shanty Creek, Whistler) and I have not played tougher resort courses than these three. Expect great conditions and greens that roll very true! Have fun, great courses!

Kaluhyat may be the worst resort course in the United States.

It's very difficult. It has blind shots over cat-tails and hills, narrow fairways, blind penalty areas, tons of sand and water, etc. It takes about six rounds of local knowledge to have a clue what you're doing, and even then, there are stupid par fours where you hit 4I, 4I off the tee (16, IIRC).

A resort course should be relatively straightforward, wide, easy to get around quickly and shoot a decent score without having to look for (or lose) a dozen balls.

Had not seen this one but yes my wife and I played last summer 2019, while visiting family in CNY. We loved it, stayed at the lodge there, my dad told me his company had several Christmas parties there over the years.
We played Shenendoah the first day and Atunyote on the 2nd, loved both days. I heard the other course was bit tough so chose to not play that, I love the game and need as much fairway as can be provided. Fairways and greens were in great shape, we felt like we were the only ones on the course, kept us spread out.

Aloha,

I played Atunyote a million years ago, enjoyed it until my last hole, uphill birdie putt from about 13 feet stopped an inch below the hole and then slowly trickled all the way back down to my feet

I saw a few older threads on this, but nothing recent. Anyone have advice for the golf courses there? Heading up this weekend for a buddy trip 6-round jaunt (thursday-sunday). Going to be cold in mornings, so may not get all the rounds in. I'm not a big casino fan, so really just there for the golf.

Recommendations on best courses, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

They're some of the more difficult "resort" courses out there, I can tell you that. Typically resorts like people to have a good time and to get around the course efficiently.

Atunyote might be the easiest, and it's the former PGA Tour course.
