my hands are too small to overlap so i use the interlock. where the pinky meets the palm i have a terrible pain every time i go through impact. has anyone experienced this before? i feel like its bruised. I swing at least 100 times a day (whether it just be swing rehearsal or hitting balls), but that still shouldn't really make a difference.

anyone else have any experience with this? does that spot just need to toughen up so it can handle the grip of the club unhinging and putting a lot of pressure on it through impact?

I get that with wedge shots, i use the overlap for them and interlock for the rest

wowwww that would seem very inconsistent to me. but whatever works. i just hope it toughens up and i can play through it eventually without pain.

The base of my right pinky also aches after a practice session, but it's not inhibiting at the time and doesn't seem to be getting any more severe. Yours sounds worse and, if it's an overuse injury, I'm afraid it probably isn't going to get better until you stop doing it for a while.

I practice out the back of my house with wedge shots.

30min a day 5 times a week and you'll get use to it. Honestly it's not worth the pain, if it's that sore to hit shots try overlap. It's not that much of a difference.

Never had similar issues, and not sure exactly what the problem is. Don't see where the pinky would meet the palm.

for me it's the knuckle that hurts after awhile.

Make sure you're not gripping too tight, whether the whole grip or just squeezing the pinky against a knuckle or something like that. I'd suggest taking a few days off to be sure it goes away.

If I make my left hand more neutral I can wrap the pinky farther underneath my index to the point where my pinky is not touching the grip at all. This has eliminated the pain completely. I think it was really more of a grip issue.

The problem was the pinky joint was slowing getting bruised from all the unhinging through impact. I just tried this new grip and now the grip isn't touching my pinky joint it's touching the very top of the palm right below the pinky. This is so much more comfortable and maybe I was just playing with too strong a grip all along where I could see 3 knuckles which made it impossible for me to get my right hand on top of the club in a symmetrical fashion without the grip touching the bottom of my pinky. Anyways, this feels better I just need to try it at the range.

The bottom of the pinky finger about a half a cm above where the palm begins

Paz,

I use a reverse interlock putting grip (left hand low as a R-hander). I originally used reverse overlap, but had trouble setting the grip consistently. Interlock solved the problem.

Putting is a non-power stroke, so I really don't have the problems you have.

Classic club gripping suggests holding the club primarily in the last three fingers of the left hand, and the right hand primarily using the two middle fingers, with other right fingers "along for the ride." If you are bearing down with your right little finger, you might be hurting your tendons or something similar.

Possibly one of our teaching pros could identify what might be causing the pain.

Paz,

I'm not really sure why it was hurting but today I haven't been to the range for a few days and I went and hit 170 balls with no pain at all. Straight, baby push draws, and some monster ott hook pulls when i tried to swing too hard pushing my distance. 7i 160 with range balls is feeling good. Notable shots were when I actually held my wrist cock perfectly and hit down on the ball just right. Those shots had an extra 10-15 feet of trajectory. So pretty.
