5 wood vs 3 hybrid

so mine go about the same distance but with my wedges gw,sw,lw i gotta choose either 5wood or 3 hybrid. whats the general consensus with these clubs. 5 wood goes higher, but hybrid is very versatile from rough, chipping and tee. what do you guys think?

If you hit both well, it comes down to distance gaps. I went with 5W because it goes about 190 (fade) to 205 (draw) yards, and is more reliable. The 3H I used last spring was OK from light rough (about 185 yds.), but was completely unpredictable from the fairway or on the tee.

I have since test-hit a Diablo and an Adams hybrid which seem to work fairly well, but I like the 3i primarily as a driving iron (low draws under the wind).

You might split the difference and try the second-generation TM Raylor. Has boathull shaped head which cuts through the rough, plus the shaft length closer to a fairway wood. Comes in 19* and 22* models.

I have a TM 5-wood and Adams A4 3H. My 3H goes about 190 and 5w about 180. The 3H is works very well from fairway, rough and tee. The Adams 3H is more square shaped. I like the 5w too, but it isn't as forgiving on non-level lies (downhill, above and below feet, etc.).

I have a old taylormade pittsburgh perssimon 5 w and a new 3h taylormade rescue tp. I hit the 5 wood about 235 and the hydrid about 215. I would only use the 5 from the fairway or light rough, the hybrid I can use in more situations.

Last year I played both. Distance for me seemed about equal. The hybrid was a little more versitile - essentially it hit out of the rough better than the 5 wood. I decided to go with the 5 wood though. I hit it more consistantly and it inspires more confidence for me. If you're going to go with a 5 wood, just look closely at the sole design. The sole design of my 5 wood allows me to get at the ball a little better in the rough.
