I've been golfing since I can remember. starting with a home made cut down set. then my fathers old powerbuilts. Next was the used Ping Zing 2's that were stolen after my only junior golf tournament win from outside the grille as I accepted the trophy Then my only new set, my current Ping ISI-S that I still use. Bought when I was 13 (I think, now 25!!!) when I was much smaller. standard length blue dots (1 degree upright?). I did play with my dads OG Maxfli Australian blades in high school when I was down to about a 5 hdcp. I'm now about a 9 but play better then it sounds since I only touch the clubs about twice a month at most.
I'm currently looking at Titlest AP2's and Cleveland Reds but am pretty excited about the AP2's. most likely in +0.5 length and Project X 6.0's but I'll have a fitter help with that.
Any suggestions for a low offset, non-"game improving" irons. I like the low offset of high skilled clubs but don't think a blade would suit me considering I don't play that often
PS: I'm 6'3" 190lbs. My 150 club is a strong 9 or smooth 8. My 200 is a smooth 5 and I hit my driver about 290 consistently.
The regular shafts on My Pings are KILLING me.......at least thats the excuse I'm giving myself for the new irons

Will do. I just really need to find a fitter that uses a real grass range. Trying out clubs through a computer and/or off astro-turf just doesn't jive with me. I'm already set on the Vokey wedges too.

I know the feeling.

The blades will not kill you. I love mine and not playing that much, I still hit them like a champ.

I was around a 4 handicap in high school and a couple of years ago when I was 25, I set out for a new set. I ended up with the Mizuno MP-32 2 degrees upright and with the Project X 6.5. They are like playing with a hot knife through butter.

I had to do the same thing. I had Ping ISI-K Blue Dot pings and I could not hit them for nothing.

New guy here, but my 2 cents worth is Muzuno. I have the MP57 and love them, they make great clubs and the feel is the best. Even my 20 year old who knows everything,LOL... Likes my irons, he of course has to play Titleist AP2 because that is what the young guns like!

AP2's are a great set. Can't deny that. However, you can still save a good amount of dollars for other great clubs out there.

Callaway X-forged '09 or '07, you can find both for under 800$ now.
Mizuno MP-62 would be another one to look closely at.
Titleist ZB/ZM, you can find these on sale for like $700 and they are a great set, though not the most forgiving.

yea Ive got the ap2's and love them. Try the callway xforged, mizuno line of irons and the ap2's and see which one you like best. Those are going to be your best options in this category.

There are nice options from most major manufacturers. I went through the on-line fitting process (clubs and balls) at a few websites and they suggest some really appealing setups.

The most intriguing OEM suggested bag set up was from Wilson Staff. The iron set was one I hadn't even considered:

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.
